Tesla is currently rolling out the latest version of the company’s full self-driving software, version 14. Musk claims this version feels “sentient” and includes most features available on the Tesla Robotaxi fleet.
Following Musk’s statements, Tesla owners have been eager to get their hands on this new FSD update.
However, since the rollout began, initial owner reactions have been less than enthusiastic.
Some Tesla owners even say that version 14 FSD feels like a major step backward compared to the one-year-old version 13.
These owners specifically cite the lack of speed control as a major issue; they also mention that the vehicle stutters during turns, starting to turn, then stopping before continuing.
Tesla owners argue that the EV maker’s AI engineers should focus less on gimmicky features like “Mad Max” mode and more on improving the vehicle’s real-world driving experience rather than just racing to meet KPIs.
Some owners even claim they can no longer use FSD with their dog inside because the unnecessary braking and accelerating make the dog sick.
The first Tesla owner to share his dissatisfaction about the FSD v14 software is Ng.
Ng shared his thoughts on the Tesla 2025+ Model Y Juniper Owners Club on Facebook.
He writes…
“v14.1.3 is a downgrade for FSD. I used to drive 100% of the time with FSD daily (~100 miles), but now it's only 20%.
The “Sloth” and “Chill” driving modes are ridiculous. It constantly changes lanes when the car in front slows down, but I want to stay in my lane because it's raining so hard.
I can't control the speed anymore and have to roll the knob on the right side of the steering wheel up and down.
It can't even help me drive on rainy days now. The engineers who made this update, please get out of the office and drive for 8 hours a day to really understand what users want, instead of just racing KPIs with other car companies.”
Ng definitely seems unhappy with the FSD v14 update. However, looking at the comments, several other Tesla owners echoed the same sentiment.
A fellow Tesla owner, Tuan Q Pham, writes…
“Yes, I completely agree with this post. FSD v14.x feels like a step backward in terms of driving experience. Instead of adding gimmicks like “Mad Max” mode—which probably appeals to less than 1% of drivers—Tesla’s engineers should focus on making the experience safer and more enjoyable for the average, sensible driver using the Standard profile for daily commutes.
What’s worse is that most early YouTubers and testers are raving about this new Mad Max mode, rather than reviewing how it performs for everyday drivers.
The new Standard profile in FSD v14.x is terrible. It changes lanes aggressively and often exceeds the speed limit just to keep up with faster traffic. We’ve had to intervene frequently by toggling it back to "chill" and "sloth" profiles, just to maintain control and stay within our preferred speed range—typically around 15% above the posted limit.
At this point, the Standard profile in v14.x feels more like the old “Hurry” profile from v13. It completely ignores the speed offset and drives like an over-caffeinated teenager.
Honestly, I wish we could downgrade back to FSD v13. We’ve loved using FSD, but with this latest update, we’re planning to cancel our monthly subscription.”
A third Tesla owner, Tedra Morrison, writes…
“Not impressed so far at all. Stutters on right-hand turns in the city (starts to turn and stops about 6-8 times).
On the interstate, it’s a bit erratic. Changes lanes back and forth, then pulls back into the original lane for no reason.
It thinks it sees things in the road (it's actually skid marks) and swerves to avoid them (at 70+ mph, it's scary).
Once, it told navigation to take a right turn toward the interstate. FSD took a left instead, then another left... drove around a gas station for a minute, and then turned back onto the main road to take a right to the interstate.”
A fourth Tesla owner, Julia Lynne, writes…
“It’s absolutely terrible. We're not even using FSD right now because it randomly slams on the brakes and stutters when trying to turn. Hell, it swerved on the interstate the other day to avoid a skid mark. I hate it.”
A fifth Tesla owner, Alessa Chernyakov, writes…
“I have to turn it off if I am not the only person in the car. Passengers justifiably dislike it. Even driving my dog to the vet was too much for him because of the braking. I myself am okay with exploring its benefits and shortcomings.”
A sixth Tesla owner, Jaron Tafoya, writes…
“They should make FSD free for the month with this new update so they can get a lot of data on how to improve it.”
A seventh Tesla owner, Shen Li, writes…
“V14 didn’t work well on my end; it is so much worse than v13.”
Overall, the verdict appears to be in, and most Tesla owners aren’t happy with the v14 FSD software.

I totally get why people go hyper (or triggered) over every Tesla FSD update.
Oddly though, we rarely see that same public energy for Windows updates - maybe it’s quiet 1980s acceptance still here. 😅
The biggest difference?

Whoever is programming on FSD at Tesla has to be on the serious hotseat. This is a difficult problem and I'm sure there's a lot of pressure.
