Keith, a Cybertruck owner from New York, says he got momentarily trapped inside his truck when it suddenly lost power.
Keith explains that he had just started driving and, as he was leaving his driveway, decided to step out to clear snow off the headlights.
Nothing significant so far; however, when he returned to his truck, it suddenly began displaying multiple error messages.
At this point, despite numerous issues, the Cybertruck was still drivable, so he decided to return to his garage.
Keith says he was inside the Cybertruck trying to figure out what was happening when the vehicle suddenly shut down, lost power, and the electronically operated doors stopped working with him inside.
Thankfully, Keith did not panic and used the emergency manual release to extricate himself from the vehicle.
This is certainly not ideal, and it is concerning that these issues have persisted for two years after Tesla began delivering the Cybertruck.
Keith shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.
He writes…
“Dead truck.
I loaded some addresses into the truck and headed out of the driveway to see the Christmas light displays at the locations posted online.
I made it about 100 ft down the road and had to stop to clear the headlights.
I got back into the truck and started getting all the lights and warnings.
I barely made it back to the house by backing down the street right into my driveway.
I tried a few things: screen reboot, hard reboot, nothing.
I am now locked INSIDE the truck, and nothing is working—no power, no screen, no window power.
I had to use the emergency release... and I was really careful when I closed the door.”
Below his post, Keith included several pictures and videos of the incident. In the video, you can see the Cybertruck’s center touchscreen pulsing red and displaying the “Pull Over Immediately” message.
The error message reads…
“Loss of system redundancy detected
Unable to shift out of Park (P) because the vehicle has detected a loss of redundancy. Out of Park (P), the vehicle may suddenly lose electrical power, steering, and propulsion, and may be unable to apply the parking brake.
It may be possible to recover the system by performing a vehicle power cycle: Exit the vehicle, close all doors, reenter the vehicle, and attempt to drive.
An override is available for low-speed maneuvering to position the vehicle for roadside support. Be ready to apply the brake pedal.”
Keith also shared a second error message that reads…
“Power reduced
Low-voltage electrical system issue detected
The electrical system is unable to support all features.”
Receiving multiple error messages with no apparent cause after driving only a few feet is frustrating. And looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners also shared their concerns about what happened.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Dan, writes…
“Sorry to hear. These posts always make me nervous. When business is normal, I hate seeing vehicles just die. If you drove through a huge ditch just because you felt like it, that’d be one thing. This is another.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Jay, writes…
“The real question is, when failures like this occur, and the truck is out of warranty, then what? Oh well? Pay us to fix it or buy a new one? This is what scares me about long-term ownership.”
A third Cybertruck owner from Kentucky asks…
“Sorry to hear.
I hope Tesla takes care of this quickly.
Are you able to open your Cybertruck? Do any app controls work?”
In response, Keith says…
“It's totally dead. I tried the key card but couldn't open the tonneau cover, the tailgate, or the door. I tried restarting my phone. No difference. Totally dead. I have 59,000 miles on it; the general warranty has expired, but the powertrain warranty remains active. If it's not the powertrain, I'm screwed.”
