The new Chevy truck looks enough like the old one to recognize that it is a new version. Plus, Chevy is keeping a diesel engine available.

We finally get to see the highly anticipated Next-Generation 2027 Silverado 1500. Chevy says this will be the most powerful Silverado ever, although at this point it is not releasing the horsepower or torque numbers. The 2027 will be on sale by the end of the year. Chevrolet has already started a big sale on 2026 models to clear the way for the new truck. The 2027 models will be powered by the next-generation 5.7L and 6.6L V8 engines. An enhanced 2.7L TurboMax that delivers best-in-class standard torque and a segment-exclusive Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel will also be available. The new trucks have a bolder stance and stronger face but still look enough like the 2026 models to know they are siblings.

“Silverado has earned truck customers’ trust over decades of hard work in the real world,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet. “With the Next-Generation 2027 Silverado 1500, we’re taking that legacy forward by building the most capable, refined and advanced Silverado lineup we’ve ever offered.”

The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The 2027 Silverado will have seven different trim levels, offering a broad range of choices to better meet customer demands. The truck will have three different trucks with lifts straight from the factory, giving off-roaders a choice in capability.

Seven Silverado 1500 Trim Levels

  • Basic Work truck
  • Custom
  • Custom Trail Boss
  • Silverado (Replaces previous LT trim level)
  • Trail Boss
  • ZR2- Chevy’s ultimate off-roader
  • High Country - Chevy’s top-of-the-line, loaded with luxury

While the Silverado ZR2 trim is technically Chevy’s top off-roader with 35-inch MT tires and 2” inch lift, there will also be a ZR2 Bison Edition offered in conjunction with American Expedition Vehicles. The Bison adds distinctive front and rear AEV bumpers, rocker protection, 18-inch beadlock capable wheels and a comprehensive set of skid plates protecting the front underbody, transfer case, rear differential and fuel tank.

Next-Generation 5.7L and 6.6L V8 Engines

At the heart of the new Silverado 1500 is its most capable and refined powertrain lineup ever, led by next-generation 5.7L and 6.6L V8 engines. The new engines are part of a new lineup of V-8s that includes the recently announced Corvette LS6 6.7L V8.

The Silverado 1500 now offers the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 engine in its class. Engineered for serious work and confident towing, these next-generation V8s deliver improvements in power and torque giving customers more choice without compromise. These engines underscore Chevrolet’s commitment to offering V8 power for truck customers.

“We pushed these engines through an extensive testing and validation process to make sure they deliver the durability, capability and dependability Silverado customers expect,” said Mark Dickens, executive chief engineer. “From tough towing scenarios to the daily demands our customers put on their trucks, these next-generation V8s were engineered and proven to perform in the real world.”

New Bolder Exterior Design

The new face of the Chevrolet Silverado is visible in the truck’s new LED headlights and taillights, more pronounced wheel opening moldings and rocker treatments, and standard dual exhaust on Custom and above for a more refined appearance.

“The goal with the new Silverado was to create a truck that looks stronger, more modern with demanding presence at first glance, while staying true to the authentic truck character customers expect from Chevrolet,” Chevrolet Global Executive Design Director Phil Zak said.

New Tech and Huge Screens

Some of the biggest changes with the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are on the interior. The top trim levels offer up to 60 inches of screens. There is a class-leading 16.3-inch center display and 12.2-inch driver information center that are standard across the lineup. On ZR2 and High Country, a class-leading 11.5” front passenger screen comes standard paired with Heads-Up-Display and a rear camera mirror so customers can experience over 60” of digital displays.

The tech-forward layout gives drivers an easier way to access  navigation, media, vehicle information and available trailering technologies. There is available dual wireless charging and a reconfigurable center console that adds useful storage.

Super Cruise driver-assistance technology with exclusive trailering brings hands-free driving to towing, reinforcing Silverado’s blend of innovation and capability. No other competitor in its class offers a hands-free driving system with trailering capability.

I’ll have much more on the different trim levels in future stories. At this point, Chevrolet isn’t saying when it will release horsepower, torque and mileage numbers, only that it will be closer to when the new trucks go on sale.

“Whether it’s a High Country customer looking for premium appointments, an off-road enthusiast choosing ZR2 or Trail Boss, or a small business owner counting on Work Trucks to get the job done, there is a 2027 Silverado 1500 built around their world,” said Bell. “Chevrolet is moving the Silverado story forward with the most powerful and advanced Silverado 1500 we have ever offered.”

With Chevrolet revealing the new look of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, you can also expect that a new GMC Sierra 1500 will soon follow. Eventually, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon will also adopt the same new looks. The heavy-duty trucks will follow with new designs, as well.
