A Cybertruck owner was initially excited to learn that Tesla had quietly added free supercharger access to his truck. However, he quickly realized this means his truck has encountered a significant charging issue affecting home charging.

A Tesla Cybertruck owner says he was surprised to find his final bill after a supercharger session was zero dollars.

He's been driving his truck since late 2024 and has paid for every charging session until now.

However, during his latest supercharger visit, he noticed the final bill was $0.00.

He also checked the Tesla app connected to his Cybertruck and found that free supercharging access had been added to his account.

Given the high prices at superchargers, a free session is usually welcome news; however, for this owner, Tesla’s generosity meant his truck is facing a major charging problem.

Tesla has recently started offering free Supercharger access to Cybertruck owners experiencing A/C charging issues, specifically those with power conversion system (PCS) failures.

PCS failure causes slow home charging or, in some cases, completely stops charging from an A/C adapter.

Tesla is aware of the issue, but due to a high number of failures, the EV maker is currently unable to repair all affected vehicles.

The Cybertruck owner, after seeing the free supercharger session, shared his thoughts on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.

He writes…

“WHY FREE? Surprise? I haven’t encountered a PCS2 error yet and have NEVER used Tesla service. I bought this truck brand new from Tesla in November 2024.

While charging my Cybertruck on the road, I noticed a 0.00 charge, so I checked the app and saw 'FREE SUPERCHARGING.’ Did they proactively give this to everyone?”

The Cybertruck owner continues to say that his home charging is limited to 16 amps, down from the 48 amps the vehicle is rated for.

He adds…

“Charging at home is limited to 16 amps max, but I haven't contacted Tesla; I've just dealt with it since I haven’t seen any errors yet.

Is anyone else seeing this?”

Below his post, the Cybertruck owner shared a screenshot from his Tesla app showing that he has been granted free supercharger access valid until August 10.

This is clearly a case where excitement quickly turns into disappointment; however, looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners say that they also received free supercharger access following issues with home charging.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, Peter Ussery, writes…

“I have free supercharger access added to my account as well, but I have the problem of not being able to charge at home. I am scheduled for service on the 15th, assuming the part arrives. However, I wouldn’t expect the free supercharging to extend beyond the repair.”

Another owner, Mike Lopez, adds more context:

“You are eligible for free supercharging based on the VIN range of your Cybertruck, and Tesla has a service bulletin for the PCS failure. They will contact you later about the PCS replacement. Just enjoy the free supercharging for now.”

However, another owner disagrees with this assertion, writing…

“It is not being monitored by VIN number; Tesla is tracking it remotely through the Cybertruck’s remote diagnostic feature.

When Tesla detects a problem with the truck, they notify the owner and offer free supercharging.

It’s great that they do this, but they are doing it because it’s such a widespread issue and truly requires a recall.”

Based on what we’ve observed so far, PCS failures don’t appear to be confined to a specific VIN range but can affect all Cybertrucks, including both older and newer models.

We previously reported that a Cybertruck owner is looking for a buyback after experiencing his fourth Power Conversion System failure within two years.

We also reported that the PCS failure crisis is overwhelming Tesla Cybertruck service, leading to part shortages and weeks-long waits.

Overall, the PCS failures appear widespread. However, please let us know what you think in the comments. Share your ideas by clicking the red “Add new comment” button below. Also, be sure to visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.
