The rising number of PCS failures is causing some Cybertruck owners to ask Tesla to buy back their trucks. One owner states that in 23 months, his PCS has failed three times, and now he wants Tesla to refund his Cybertruck purchase.

The Cybertruck power conversion system (PCS) debacle is causing more Cybertruck owners to request buybacks.

The latest owner facing this issue is Emm from Washington, who says his power conversion system has failed for the third time.

Emm bought his Cybertruck in May 2024, and since then, he has had his PCS replaced twice.

This is already frustrating; however, today, Emm shared that his truck experienced a third PCS failure, severely affecting his ability to charge at home.

Currently, Tesla is experiencing a PCS parts shortage, with some Cybertruck owners reporting the earliest available service slot is in mid-July.

However, once parts become available and Emm gets his PCS replaced, this will be the fourth PCS unit installed in his truck in less than 2 years.

This situation is far from ideal, and a frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his thoughts on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

Emm writes...

“You can check my history for my previous problems, but my 3rd PCS is about to fail. I had #1 replaced about 6 weeks after purchasing in May of 2024. Then my 2nd replacement was in October of 2024.

Now this week, my home charging has dropped to 24 amps, and when I accessed the service menu, I saw the red PCS2_a136 error. Thankfully, I have a service appointment scheduled for next week. If this gets replaced, it will be my 4th PCS in less than two years.

I am considering a buyback. I love this truck, but it’s been in service for more than 2 months over the last 23 months—and that’s not due to minor issues.PCS (2x), lights going out, the driver's seat malfunctioning, sail applique flying off, a damaged compressor, and, prior to this PCS issue, ongoing camera calibration and FSD problems. We'll see what they say after the next appointment.”

Emm further mentions:

“Right now, I'm at 33k miles.

1st PCS went out 2 days after delivery

2nd PCS went out at 8k miles

1st PCS replacement: 1777777-02-D

2nd PCS replacement: 1777777-12-E”

And looking at the comments, a lot of Cybertruck owners share similar frustrations about PCS issues. Fellow owner Dev from Nebraska notes:

“Not what I wanted to hear. PCS in my Cybertruck was changed a few months ago. I hope this is a one-off issue.”

Another owner from Florida comments:

“Oh joy, the boards here indicate Tesla is on revision G for the PCS unit. You can check your old service records and see what revisions were installed. With parts delays, perhaps a lemon buyback and repurchase would be faster—who knows.

I tried to add a PCS issue to my lightbar install, but they said nope. I scheduled an appointment for June 10, but it’s probably going to be pushed back. On the plus side, you should get the free supercharging update now.”

Malibu Cybertruck owner Mo says:

“I wouldn't just consider a buyback; I would pursue it. Best to you. It’s a great truck and worth owning long-term, and I’d be happy to get a new one if mine were problematic.”

From Sacramento, another owner recommends:

“I’d go with a buyback. At best, it’s the PCS itself that’s going bad. At worst, there’s something else causing the issue, or techs aren’t repairing it correctly.”

An owner from Kansas adds:

“I’m not OP, but just found out I have a PCS failure. I mainly charge via 110V and some supercharging. I thought high-amp AC charging caused these failures, but mine probably has been broken for a while, since I never charged at high amps. I discovered the issue after testing a high AC charge, which was limited to 24 amps, and then found alerts in the service menu. My truck just got out of Tesla service, and faults were dated while they had the truck, and they didn't disclose the issue to me.”
