A Software Bug Inside Tesla’s System Temporarily Lowered the Price of the Base Model Cybertruck to $0

Late last night, Tesla accidentally lowered the starting price of the base Model Cybertruck to $0.

The first person to notice this glitch was Fiddler, a Cybertruck buyer from Bowie, Maryland.

Fiddler was looking around Tesla’s online configurator to order a new Cybertruck, and lo and behold, the purchase price for the Cybertruck AWD was listed as $0.

Tesla was still charging the usual $7,000 for the full self-driving software, and other add-ons were priced as expected; however, the purchase price for the base model truck was lowered to $0.

Excited by the news, the Maryland Cybertruck buyer shared a screenshot of  Tesla’s website on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

He writes…

“AWD Cybertruck for FREE! FSD=$7000”

Below his post, Fiddler shared a screenshot of the Tesla desktop site with the Cybertruck order page opened.

As you can see in the picture above, the online configurator shows the price for the All-Wheel-Drive Cybertruck as $0.

Whereas the price for the higher trim performance Cybertruck was displayed at the regular $99,990.

Other options, such as the initial payment to reserve a rang extender battery pack, stayed at $2,000, and the FSD package also cost the regular $7,000 for people with a prior reservation.

Looking to take advantage of this opportunity, Fiddler opened Tesla’s website on his phone. There, too, the purchase price of the Cybertruck AWD was lowered to $0.

After choosing the $7,000 FSD package, the Cybertruck buyer showed his final bill for the base model Cybertruck came out to $7,150.

This is after paying the mandatory $250 order fee but subtracting the $100 reservation fee he gave Tesla years ago.

Looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners were excited by this update, and several of them inquired how they, too, could use this glitch to order a Cybertruck practically for free.

A Cybertruck owner, Nael from New York simply writes…

“How?”

Continuing, Nael advises Fiddler to go ahead with the purchase writing…

“Order it and pay cash. otherwise, sue Tesla for fake advertising.”

However, the excitement was short-lived. Fiddler says he quickly filled out his personal information and hit order; however, by then, Tesla had patched up the glitch, and he couldn’t place the order.

Fiddler writes…

“I asked my wife to verify my order while I typed CC, Zip, ... And clicked 'ORDER.' Then, an alert said, "Please refresh the screen." I did, and then the usual numbers came back. Sorry! No deal for me.”

After checking Tesla’s online configurator, we can also confirm that the glitch has been patched, and the Cybertruck AWD price has been restored to the original $79,990.

This is obviously a short-term glitch and will not affect Tesla in any meaningful way, but it’s interesting how people would interpret this glitch given that Elon Musk has now declared himself as “White House Tech Support.”
