Every now and then, I stumble on some truly hilarious cases. This is one of them. While I am not much for stereotypes, some individuals fit the bill perfectly. One Tesla owner, apparently, decided to have fun in a very unusual way. It turns out, the joke was on him. Here’s what he says, following the aftermath of an absurd “accident”:
“To the parents of the children that put CINDER BLOCKS inside a snowman, I’m pressing charges if I catch you.
Yes, a SNOWMAN. Something that is supposed to be made of snow. Not CEMENT BLOCKS. Not construction debris. Snow.
The front end of my car is DAMAGED. Bumper wrecked. Sensors messed up. Someone needs to pay for it.
If this was your kid, handle it now. Before insurance gets involved. Before police get involved. Before I make this everyone’s problem. UNREAL behavior.”
This, along with images of the end result, was posted in the Facebook group, Mileskurth. Frankly, the more I look at the posts there, the more I feel this is some sort of clickbait. However, I checked the individual’s Instagram page, and it seems he might be a legit Toyota mechanic… or at least, someone with sufficient knowledge, who is testing the brand’s reliability to the absolute limit.
Additionally, we have seen videos of people running over snowmen that have been made from a fire extinguisher or another hard object (a video with a Dodge RAM truck comes to mind). Staged or not, this Tesla has sustained excessive front-end damage. Cinder blocks posing as a snowman tend to do that to a car.
The article serves a couple of purposes: to entertain, to look into the legal side of the “issue”, and whether the Tesla owner has the right to claim damages, and also to warn any drivers who think running over a snowman is a bright idea (it’s not).

The short answer to the legal aspect of the issue is that it depends. If the snowman was located in the middle of the street, where vehicles normally pass, then yes, the owner can sue for damages. The post doesn’t make it clear where the snowman was, but we see the EV’s front has sustained damage on the right side.
Even if we assume that the snowman was placed on a sidewalk and the driver climbed on it with the right side of his Tesla, it still wouldn’t pass in a court. Yes, the sidewalk in front of a property is typically city property (not private), but homeowners are responsible for maintaining the sidewalk in front of their property, which includes snow removal.
Failure to do so can be considered negligence, in which case, responsibility shifts from the municipality to the homeowner. While this gives the Tesla driver a chance in court, it may still not be enough, since the sidewalk is not a place for moving cars.
Naturally, the comment section was full of witty comments. Here are some of them.
One Facebook user commented: “Well, unless said snowman was in the middle of the road, you're cooked.”
Another one chimes in: “I'll get him some more blocks.”
Some group members are outraged: “What kind of mouth breather hits a snowman with their car? But you drive a Tesla so it makes sense.”
Between Facebook users recapping memories from the past, encouraging the kid’s efforts, or debating the legal aspects of this scenario, the Tesla owner doesn’t get much sympathy. What do you think is the right way to handle the situation? Let’s discuss in the comments below. And on a personal note, I would advise you not to ram snowmen when you see one.

I hope everyone is chuckling as freely as I am at this story. Exactly how does one crash into a snowman...unless there's tequila involved, right?

It's hilarious, really.
I'd assume it was on purpose, but it's not like the driver would admit to that.
