Tesla Cybertruck Owners Are Rushing To Sell Their Trucks Before The 4-Year, 50K-Mile Vehicle Warranty Runs Out. However, Their Next Vehicle Of Choice Is A New Cybertruck With a Longer Warranty

Several Cybertruck owners say they plan to sell their truck before the 4-year, 50,000-mile warranty expires. However, instead of buying another vehicle, they say they plan to trade in their Cybertruck for another one.

Trevor, an early Cybertruck owner from California, says he's planning to sell his two-and-a-half-year-old Cybertruck soon.

However, the reason behind this decision isn’t that Trevor is unhappy with his Cybertruck or looking for new features; rather, Trevor has chosen to sell his Cybertruck because his four-year vehicle warranty is about to expire, and he doesn’t want to own the Cybertruck once it's out of warranty.

Particularly, Trevor’s concern is with the Cybertruck’s Power Conversion System (PCS), which has been linked to countless dead/bricked Cybertrucks reported since the launch.

Interestingly, Trevor plans to trade in his Cybertruck before the warranty expires; however, he intends to use the proceeds to buy another one.

He says this will extend his warranty by an additional four years and let him enjoy driving his Cybertruck with peace of mind.

Selling a vehicle and buying the same vehicle simply for an added warranty is an interesting strategy; however, Trevor shares his thought process on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

He writes…

“PCS failure rates by year... Is it just a matter of time?

Hi all,

I have a very early Foundation Series Cybertruck and have been loving it.

However, with the ability to transfer FSD to a new Cybertruck, I'm very tempted to trade mine in for a new one. The trade-in offer is higher than what I owe, which is great (it’s holding its value really well).

The main reason I wanted to upgrade to a new truck is to reset the truck's warranty while I can still transfer FSD and to get a truck with a newer PCS version (although these can still fail, the failure rate seems lower).

My truck has over 15,000 miles, and I haven't had a PCS failure yet (I've dealt with various recalls, and my inverter failed around 6,000 miles).

I only have about 1.5 years left on the warranty that covers PCS failure, but mostly I don't like the idea of being stranded, since, based on threads here, it can happen without warning and at random.

I absolutely love this truck and want to keep it, but I’m curious what everyone thinks about trading a low VIN (700s) Foundation Series Cybertruck for a new 2026 model and transferring my FSD. Oh, and not that this matters much, but my payment would also be $500 less per month.

Alternatively, I'm considering a new Model X with the Luxe package that’s capable of towing our trailer (I used to have a Model X, and it towed it fine). But I think giving up the Cybertruck would make me feel dead inside, so this option might not be feasible.

Feedback is appreciated!”

Clearly, from his post, Trevor appears to be a big fan of the Cybertruck; however, the truck’s reliability issues are forcing him to consider selling it before he runs into a major out-of-warranty issue.

This is certainly an odd reason to sell a vehicle; however, looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners shared that they, too, are worried about owning the truck out of warranty.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, Roberto from California, writes…

“The PCS (Power Control System) issue was probably my biggest concern, too.

It definitely has a serious-sounding name, and Tesla seems to have it under control, but really, no one knows for sure.

I decided it was a risk worth taking, but if I ever get stranded in the middle of nowhere, I'm coming after Elon…”

Another Cybertruck owner from the North East writes…

“I'm in the same boat as you — an early Foundation series Cybertruck owner, but I don’t drive a lot, so I’m low mileage like you.

I’m hoping for the PCS issue to occur so I can just get it over with. It seems like it’s bound to happen eventually, but us low mileage folks just haven’t had it happen yet.

I’ve considered switching to a new Cybertruck like you... What did they offer for your trade-in?”

Overall, a lot of Cybertruck owners seem happy to get rid of their Cybertruck before the warranty runs out. However, interestingly enough, they also want a Cybertruck to be their next vehicle.

This is definitely a fascinating decision; however, please let me know what you think in the comments. Share your ideas by clicking the red “Add new comment” button below. Also, be sure to visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.
