Mike, a Cybertruck owner from Canada, says he’s looking to take his truck through a car wash for the first time, but he’s afraid it might get bricked.

Mike shared his thoughts on the Cybertruck Canada Facebook group.

He writes…

“Has anyone taken their Cybertruck through a car wash in the Toronto area? Want to wash the salt off but don’t want to brick the vehicle. Please let me know. I hate the salt residue all over it.”

Below his post, Mike included a picture of his Cybertruck looking dirty and in desperate need of a wash.

This is undoubtedly an intriguing issue, and Mike’s concern stems from earlier reports from Cybertruck owners whose trucks were bricked after a car wash.

Multiple Cybertruck owners reported that after taking the truck through a car wash, everything stopped working, the truck became undrivable, and it lost all power.

This issue also stems from Tesla’s warning to avoid using a car wash on the Cybertruck unless Car Wash Mode is activated first.

Tesla writes…

“Car Wash

If taking Cybertruck to an automatic car wash is necessary, Car Wash Mode closes all windows, locks the charge port, and disables the windshield wipers, Sentry Mode, and walk-away door locking.

To enable, touch Controls > Car Wash.

Your vehicle must be stationary and not actively charging.

If using an automatic car wash, Enable Free Roll keeps your vehicle in Neutral and activates free roll for the duration of the wash, preventing Cybertruck from applying the Parking brake if you leave the driver's seat.

To enable, press the brake pedal and touch Enable Free Roll, or shift into Neutral.

Car Wash Mode is disabled if the vehicle's speed exceeds 9 mph (15 km/h) or if you touch Exit on the touchscreen.

CAUTION

Failure to put Cybertruck in Car Wash Mode may result in damage (for example, to the charge port or windshield wipers). Damage caused by car washes is not covered by the warranty.”

Tesla outlines several issues that could arise if the truck isn’t put in Car Wash mode before a car wash.

However, looking at the comments, many Cybertruck owners said they regularly use automatic car washes and haven’t had any problems.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, Ben Tsang, writes…

“Why would it brick the truck? I have been using an automatic car wash since the 1st day I owned the truck. Just go for the touchless car wash.”

Another Cybertruck owner, Marc-Evan Filion, writes…

“If you’re serious about risking your truck getting bricked at a car wash, explain how you go out without being scared of getting caught in the rain! Seriously, man, this has to be a joke.”

A third Cybertruck owner, Natacha Provost, writes…

“It was minus 15 degrees the other day (in Nova Scotia), and I took the Cybertruck through the car wash.

The back door’s open button froze when I tried to open it from the outside, but I was still able to open it from the inside.

So yes, trying to wash your vehicle when it’s super cold, no matter what it is, will likely result in some freezing.

Otherwise, I take the truck through the car wash all the time.

I usually wouldn’t in that cold of weather, but we received a message from a local mom whose daughter’s Christmas wish was to see a Cybertruck up close, so I wanted to get all the salt off… she was over the moon!”

A fourth Cybertruck owner, John A. Law, writes…

“Touchless carwash with the carwash mode activated. Raise to maximum height to get a good flush up into the wheel wells. No problemo. (I've even taken it through after I got it wrapped).”

Overall, a lot of Cybertruck owners say it’s okay to take the truck through a car wash. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
