Brandon Scott Sheffield, a Cybertruck owner from Houston, Texas, says he recently drove his truck to Colorado, where the salted roads damaged his truck’s exterior.
After the trip, he noticed several brown spots on his truck that persisted even after thorough cleaning.
This is definitely not ideal, and the frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his thoughts on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
He writes…
“Hey y’all, I just got back from a trip to Colorado, where I think salt may have discolored my truck in a bunch of places. For those who live in cold climates where salt is common, are there any recommendations or successful products to remove these brown marks? This is after a thorough wash.”
Below his post, Brandon shared a picture of his Cybertruck showing brown spots on the lower part of the truck, as he says, which persist even after thorough cleaning.
This is definitely not ideal and looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners who regularly drive on salted roads shared their tips for protecting and cleaning their trucks.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Muhammad Ali Anwar from Canada, writes…
“I live in Canada, and I’ve kept my Cybertruck out all winter, through salt and multiple snowstorms a month. You name it.
I have a car wash pass at Esso, so I go there a couple of times a week for a touchless wash.
At least once or twice a month, I get a proper car wash with soft touch, because the water pressure in touchless doesn’t really get all the salt from under and around the wheels.
In any case, I haven’t had “discoloration,” but I did get little spots all over that kind of looked like iron.
Bar Keepers Friend did the trick, the cream version here in Canada.
Make sure you thoroughly clean and dry the area before you apply Bar Keepers Friend. Once you do that, you will need to Windex that area as well.
Tons of videos online. Check them out.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Darryl Orr, writes…
“Here is something useful. Gyeon Iron works well. Just wet the car, then spray it on the panel. You will see the contaminants turn purple. Rinse thoroughly after 2 or 3 minutes. If you want to be sure, apply twice.
When the contaminants are gone, you will see no more purple. If it is really bad, apply the product and rub it into the panel with a wash mitt.
This stuff is amazing. Make sure you do not let this product dry and rinse very thoroughly.
Problem solved.”
A third Cybertruck owener, Orlando Erickson, writes…
“Thanks for asking the question. I have small spots all over my truck after a trip to Colorado. I wasn’t able to wash it right away, and now I have spots. A detailer tried a soft pad and a cleaner, and the spots were removed. The lesson I learned from the comments is to wash it immediately.”
A fourth Cybertruck owner, Rafael A Lugo, writes…
“Use Chemical Guys Water Spot Remover.
Cover the whole door. Wipe it on, then, after the whole door is covered, wash it off with a lot of water and a microfiber cloth.
Be ready to do the whole truck, as this will make it the brightest and shiniest.
To make everything the same, do one whole panel at a time. It will be like new.”
A fifth Cybertruck owner, Andre Cote, writes…
“At the beginning of the winter season, I applied car wax, and it seems to make washing a lot easier! And so far, no calcium spots.”
A sixth Cybertruck owner, Agustin Alonso, writes…
“Once you get it cleaned, I would recommend a PPF wrap! With the PPF wrap, you will be worry-free and very easy to wash!”
Overall, Cybertruck owners seem to use a variety of strategies to prevent rust spots from appearing on their trucks. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
