My Tesla Cybertruck Camera Throws an Error, FSD is Disabled, the Camera Gets Too Hot, and it Randomly Loses All Visualizations, What’s the Answer?

A Tesla Cybertruck owner is having issues with his new truck. He would like answers. Who better to ask than Cybertruck owners? Benny is taking his vehicle to Tesla for service but has to wait until mid-February. Are these common Cybertruck issues?

I wanted to share my first real issue with my Cybertruck.

If you own a Tesla Cybertruck, a new owner needs your help. Benny Bolick likes his new 2024 Tesla Cybertruck but has a few issues with the electric truck. He went to a Cybertruck owner's Facebook group to share his concerns and reached out to other Cybertruck owners for answers.

Imagine that you just purchased your 2024 Cybertruck; it's loaded with new technology, which is one of the reasons that you bought the vehicle. 

However, there are issues that you can't figure out, which is not unusual for many owners. Benny is taking his Cybertruck to Tesla for service but has to wait until mid-February. Are these common Cybertruck issues?

Here are Benny's issues. 

Benny says, "I figured I would share my first real issue with the truck. The cabin camera throws an error, and FSD is disabled. The housing around the cabin camera gets pretty damn hot to the touch. What's the answer?" 

"I am also randomly losing all visualizations because the passenger side repeater is also failing and not showing up when using that turn signal. Rear has also failed once. In the service menu, it states that low frames were detected." 

"Those cameras are not visible through camera preview either when it happens. Sometimes it works for a while, which is weird, but that's for service to figure out." 

"I have made a service request, and it's not until February 14th. With FSD being so damn good now, I'm kinda bummed not to be able to use it, but that actually says a lot about how far it's come."

Benny only received two comments from other Cybertruck owners.

Scott says, Bummer. I know how you feel; FSD is so good I would really miss it.

Erik says, Good to know. I decided to check my cabin camera temperature. It's warm to touch now, but not hot.

What does Tesla say about the camera issue?

I checked Tesla's Cybertruck owner's manual and found this.

"If your Tesla Cybertruck's cabin camera is throwing an error, causing FSD to be disabled, and the housing around the camera feels hot, it likely indicates a hardware malfunction with the camera itself, and you should contact Tesla service immediately to have it inspected and potentially replaced."

Tesla says the possible reasons for this issue are:

Camera hardware failure:

  • The camera sensor or internal components might be failing, leading to overheating and malfunctioning. 
  • Loose connections:
  • A loose connection within the camera housing could cause instability and overheating. 
  • Software glitch:
  • Although less likely, a software update might have introduced a bug affecting the camera functionality. 
  • Physical damage:
  • The camera could be physically damaged if the car has recently been involved in an accident. 

What to do:

  • Contact Tesla Service:
  • Schedule an appointment with your local Tesla service center to have the camera checked and potentially replaced.
  • Check for updates:
  • Ensure your Tesla software is updated to the latest version, as updates may sometimes address camera issues.
  • Review error messages:
  • If any specific error codes are displayed on the touchscreen, note them and share them with Tesla service.

Safety implications:

  • A faulty cabin camera could affect the functionality of advanced driver assistance systems like FSD, so addressing this issue promptly is crucial. 

Privacy concerns:

  • While the cabin camera is primarily used for safety features, a malfunctioning camera could raise privacy concerns. 

On a Cybertruck owners club website, One owner says, "It fixed itself after 24 hours. Then the camera stopped again. Then it came back. A week later, the right camera went out. There are no visualizations at all on screen. I did a screen reboot. Now it works. I'm taking it for service on Tuesday."

  • Bigmoose70 says, "Tesla service checked it out and found a faulty infrared sensor, and they're replacing it. It will occasionally happen and then not happen. Could be a sign the infrared sensor is starting to fail."
  • Chrisnewton21 says, "Yes, I get the "Cabin Camera Unavailable" probably 40% of the time I use FSD. It alerts me the moment I press on the brake. 

"It seems to be an intermittent fault. I hoped the latest software update would disappear, but it did not. I have a service appointment on February 4th."

"I've talked to two friends here who have cyber trucks, and both said they have never experienced that issue. I've only had it for 3 weeks, so I am hoping it'll be covered under the warranty."

Conclusion.

Tesla's camera and FSD technology in the Cybertruck are excellent, but a few owners have experienced issues. Taking it to the Tesla service center is the best solution. Unfortunately, Benny has to wait a few weeks to get his Cybertruck in for service. 

How long does it take to get a Tesla vehicle into the service center?

A typical wait to get a Cybertruck in for Tesla service can vary depending on the service needed, your location, and the current service center workload, but generally falls within a few days to a couple of weeks; however, for major repairs or complex issues, the wait could be longer.
