Is the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado a better truck than a 2020 Ford F-150?
Teri Lynn recently traded in her 2020 Ford F-150 pickup and purchased a 2025 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss. She is wondering if she made the right decision.
She pulls a horse trailer and needs a truck that will do the job, and the Silverado shouldn't have a problem.
However, with the recent problems GM is experiencing with its trucks, she's now not so sure it was the right choice.
She says, I just traded my 2020 F-150 for a 2025 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss. Now, I just hope I made the right choice.
I love it right now. I haven't had a Chevy since my first vehicle, a 1994 Silverado 1500.
Did Teri make the right choice?
She asks fellow Silverado and Sierra owners on the 2019 - 2025 Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra Owners Facebook page.
Of course, they all applaud her for getting rid of the F-150 and getting a Silverado. What else are they going to say?
Here are a few comments from Silverado and Sierra owners.
Ryan Terrell - Came from a Ford F-150 Raptor to my ZR2, and so far, I like it more. I do miss the quickness of the Raptor, though.
Colton Sanderson - Love mine! It tows very nice as well. I have the Trail Boss with the 3.0. I just took the stickers off, haha. It's been great so far.
Tanner Hines - Traded my 2022 F-150 for a 2025 GMC Sierra, and I love it so far.
With all the problems GM is having with its trucks, will Teri regret buying the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss?
It’s Not All Rainbows and Lollipops in Silverado Land
I recently wrote two stories about 2025 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss owners who wish they could go back and do it all over again.
The first Trail Boss owner, Nicholas Gross, just purchased a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss, thinking it's a great truck.
However, he is having second thoughts about the purchase. He's had more problems with it in just a few months than any truck he's ever had.
He says, venting his frustration,
"Holy freaking gremlins. This truck is a piece of work. In March, I bought a new 2025 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss, and I've never had this many problems with a truck in such a short amount of time."
I've already had to replace both rear cameras due to moisture damage and the camera harness due to a broken clip. Additionally, I've had to replace the door latch because the door wouldn't open, and I've lost all sound in my truck, including turn signals. Now, my CarPlay isn't working.
For the amount of money we pay for these trucks, I definitely shouldn't be having these issues.
And another thing, has anyone ever had an issue with water getting inside your backup and hitch cameras?
My Silverado's cameras on the tailgate are both blurry and full of condensation. I'm going to take it back to the dealer, but I want to know if this is a common issue.
Then It Gets Worse For This Trail Boss Owner
Jim Post purchased a 2025 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss and is having problems with his truck after only 231 miles. He lost power steering and brakes. The dealer has replaced the power steering unit twice, but it has been at the dealer for 38 days and remains unresolved.
He says,
"I have a 2025 2500HD Chevy Silverado Trail Boss, and it lost its power steering and brakes at 231 miles. The brand-new truck has been at the Chevrolet dealer's service department for 38 days."
"They replaced the entire power steering system twice, and there are still metal shavings in the power steering fluid. Has anyone else had this issue? It is a 6.6-liter gas engine."
What is the Problem With GM trucks?
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado, despite receiving positive reliability ratings from some sources, has faced reports of transmission issues, particularly with the 8-speed automatic transmission, including rough shifting and stalling.
Additionally, some 2025 Duramax trucks have experienced transmission leaks. There are also concerns about potential engine problems, such as lifter failures in V8 engines.
Furthermore, a recall was issued for certain 2019-2025 Chevrolet Silverados due to a risk of brake fluid leak.
Conclusion:
We don't know about Teri Lynn's 2020 Ford F-150 pickup, and the problems she had with it. However, for some reason, she went back to owning a Chevrolet Silverado. Did she make the right decision?
Because of the new Silverado issues, she may be kicking herself. Time will tell.
However, it's important to note that many other owners report no issues with their 2025 Trail Boss trucks, including the power steering.

Has anyone looked at the vin on your trucks because if it has a 3 starting off that’s probably your whole problem cause it means your truck came from Mexico I buy all mine with a 1 which is us and haven’t had any issues with my 2022 sierra and I’ve got 82,000 miles

I purchased a 2001 Toyota SR5 Tundra V8 new and at 24 years old it is still going strong. It has been well maintained but hauled a lot of heavy loads. I would feel secure in driving it to Alaska tomorrow.
Wish they would build a simple, high quality work truck like that today. No frills that eventually create reliability issues.

The only GM product that I DID NOT have problems with was the one I bought with a 3 VIN. My Fort Wayne Silverado was the worst vehicle I have ever purchased. Not sure if it is a union problem or what but overall fit/finish/quality after 30k was abysmal. I’ll never buy a GM again, definitely not a GM built in the US.

Anyone who has the Internet knows Ford is up to 89 recalls just this year. I'm not sure there is a good new full size truck. Even Toyota has screwed up. The only full size truck I'd spend a dime of is a used Tundra with the V8.

Yes, everyone gets the internet, EVERY truck manufacturer is crap, within the last 5 years, not just chevy, it's FORD, TOYOTA, etc. This is why older truck's, from the '90's to early 2000's are bringing huge money, on the auction sites, people who know, don't want this current new garbage that is overenginered

So happy and contented of what I decide..mostly my mechanics friends told me its made of plastics thats why they told me be careful what you get.made in China is sick and cheap you gonna lose your money.its not coming from me its coming to majority of the mechanics.im so happy with my Dodge RAM..

I don't blame you one bit my friend. I had a 2022 junk Chevy and I have to put an engine in it and two transmissions at 30,000 miles. General motors is total garbage. Since then I went back to a Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with a Hemi and it's been one great truck. I would never consider owning anything else. all my Dodge Rams I've owned in the past have always done me well with no major issues. In my opinion Ram is the way to go. Even Toyotas are junk now.

I've been a mechanic for 40 years. I agree with vehicles coming from China,Mexico or Canada, which why I confused why you choose Ram. It was bought out by China. Dodge was okay except the transmission issues . I rebuilt my wife's dodge grand caravan with the 3.8 which was very smooth, but to have tge transmission failed at 38,000 miles that stunk. I called the Dodge regional rep and he would good faith it with a new transmission. I thought great, but then to receive a response from the rep. He said that the dealership manager wouldn't be interested in doing the transmission. I said fine. Just give me tge transmission and I'll do the work. He refused to order the new transmission! Untuck8ng real.

I have had my Z 71 Silverado for almost a year. I put 16000 miles on it. Other than a programming glitch that was under a recall. It's been a good truck. It's quieter smoother riding than my 2017. In general one of the best trucks I have had.

I bought a 2019 Silverado that only had 82 miles on it. At the time, I thought it was a really good deal. Now I realize it was a huge mistake. The eight speed transmission had to be replaced at 50k miles. It failed the day after a local dealership did a transmission service. They naturally denied any responsibility. That cost me almost $7,000. Then I discovered the issues with the DFM and lifter failures that destroy the engine. Mine doesn't have the problem yet, but I'm not going to wait for it to happen. That truck is getting sold and I'll never buy another GM product again. GM has knowingly sold self destructing junk to the public for years and continues to do so. I'll never trust them or their dealerships again. Teri is going to regret that purchase. GM should never have been bailed out.

I agree with you 100%! My 22 Chevy had less than $30,000 miles on it and needed one engine 6.2 l and I went through two transmissions and that amount of time. GM is the biggest piece of s*** I've ever owned. Went back to owning a Dodge Ram and I will never own anything else. I've had the best luck with Ram trucks. I don't care what the haters say about Ram trucks they're better than the others in my opinion.

Should have got a ram like I did! Ram trucks are the only trucks I've ever had luck with. They've all treated me well. General motors is the worst. Never had much luck with Ford either. Ram has definitely been the best for me.

I purchased a 2024 Silverado 2500 LT and November of 2023. Have not had one problem. I now have 17,000 miles on it. I own a landscape company. I pull my dump trailer. I also pulled a 33 ft camper trailer in Delaware to Dallas Texas. Perfect. It has a gas 6.6 l with the 10 speed Allison Transmission.
Also with this truck with a bed cap on will get you anywhere from 15 to 20 miles a gallon on the highway.
This truck amazes me at everything.
Every company has its lemons.
I have owned three Chevy Silverados over the years. One 1500 and two 2500s.
They have all been excellent trucks with no issues

I own a 2019 Chevvy Silverado RST, it's going on 100,000 miles. So far so good, It's been a great truck.
Oil changes are done at 3-4000 miles,.. or about 50% oil life.
Tranny fluid and filter done at 50,000 miles.. no issues.
Electronics work fine,
Keep in mind though, i baby all of my vehicles.
I let idle for 2 to 3 minutes before driving off, no sudden acceleration at red lights, no over excessive revving, and I don't lend my vehicle to other drivers..lol.
Im looking at soon purchasing a 2026... that's how impressed I am.
BTW, I have a 5.3, 8 speed, ... I've never like the 2.7, or 3.0 L models...

Bought 2025 2500hd silvarado 6.6 gas in dec 24. In 6 months have pulled 10000 lb trailer 5000 miles and truck 16000 miles. Added 3" lift and 35 x 12.50 wranglers. Haven't had any issues with the truck. Drives great, pulls great. Love all the cameras and features. Only concern ive had is during a couple of cold starts heard a metallic sound momentarily. Gas mileage not great, but that's not why I bought the truck. It gets better mileage than the 2015 f150 w 4" lift that i had eco boost 3.5. It was a good truck too overall. Had to fix a lot with it though. Modules and sensors and coil packs. Seemed like I put $12000 in it, converters, mufflers, topper, brakes, ball joints and dealer would only give me 6000 for it. Great truck for someone. I needed something that towed a little better.
