Is the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado a better truck than a 2020 Ford F-150?
Teri Lynn recently traded in her 2020 Ford F-150 pickup and purchased a 2025 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss. She is wondering if she made the right decision.
She pulls a horse trailer and needs a truck that will do the job, and the Silverado shouldn't have a problem.
However, with the recent problems GM is experiencing with its trucks, she's now not so sure it was the right choice.
She says, I just traded my 2020 F-150 for a 2025 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss. Now, I just hope I made the right choice.
I love it right now. I haven't had a Chevy since my first vehicle, a 1994 Silverado 1500.
Did Teri make the right choice?
She asks fellow Silverado and Sierra owners on the 2019 - 2025 Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra Owners Facebook page.
Of course, they all applaud her for getting rid of the F-150 and getting a Silverado. What else are they going to say?
Here are a few comments from Silverado and Sierra owners.
Ryan Terrell - Came from a Ford F-150 Raptor to my ZR2, and so far, I like it more. I do miss the quickness of the Raptor, though.
Colton Sanderson - Love mine! It tows very nice as well. I have the Trail Boss with the 3.0. I just took the stickers off, haha. It's been great so far.
Tanner Hines - Traded my 2022 F-150 for a 2025 GMC Sierra, and I love it so far.
With all the problems GM is having with its trucks, will Teri regret buying the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss?
It’s Not All Rainbows and Lollipops in Silverado Land
I recently wrote two stories about 2025 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss owners who wish they could go back and do it all over again.
The first Trail Boss owner, Nicholas Gross, just purchased a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss, thinking it's a great truck.
However, he is having second thoughts about the purchase. He's had more problems with it in just a few months than any truck he's ever had.
He says, venting his frustration,
"Holy freaking gremlins. This truck is a piece of work. In March, I bought a new 2025 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss, and I've never had this many problems with a truck in such a short amount of time."
I've already had to replace both rear cameras due to moisture damage and the camera harness due to a broken clip. Additionally, I've had to replace the door latch because the door wouldn't open, and I've lost all sound in my truck, including turn signals. Now, my CarPlay isn't working.
For the amount of money we pay for these trucks, I definitely shouldn't be having these issues.
And another thing, has anyone ever had an issue with water getting inside your backup and hitch cameras?
My Silverado's cameras on the tailgate are both blurry and full of condensation. I'm going to take it back to the dealer, but I want to know if this is a common issue.
Then It Gets Worse For This Trail Boss Owner
Jim Post purchased a 2025 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss and is having problems with his truck after only 231 miles. He lost power steering and brakes. The dealer has replaced the power steering unit twice, but it has been at the dealer for 38 days and remains unresolved.
He says,
"I have a 2025 2500HD Chevy Silverado Trail Boss, and it lost its power steering and brakes at 231 miles. The brand-new truck has been at the Chevrolet dealer's service department for 38 days."
"They replaced the entire power steering system twice, and there are still metal shavings in the power steering fluid. Has anyone else had this issue? It is a 6.6-liter gas engine."
What is the Problem With GM trucks?
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado, despite receiving positive reliability ratings from some sources, has faced reports of transmission issues, particularly with the 8-speed automatic transmission, including rough shifting and stalling.
Additionally, some 2025 Duramax trucks have experienced transmission leaks. There are also concerns about potential engine problems, such as lifter failures in V8 engines.
Furthermore, a recall was issued for certain 2019-2025 Chevrolet Silverados due to a risk of brake fluid leak.
Conclusion:
We don't know about Teri Lynn's 2020 Ford F-150 pickup, and the problems she had with it. However, for some reason, she went back to owning a Chevrolet Silverado. Did she make the right decision?
Because of the new Silverado issues, she may be kicking herself. Time will tell.
However, it's important to note that many other owners report no issues with their 2025 Trail Boss trucks, including the power steering.

Bought a 2025 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate ($121,000) we purchased the vehicle in Houston. We left the dealership with 6 miles. My wife and 7 year old son were following me down. I10, after 84 miles on the odometer, the water pump hoses blew off, causing the truck to overheat immediately, went into limp mode and died and almost caused a major accident. GM really needs to get it together. We have considered selling the truck and taking a major loss due to the safety concerns. When you spend this kind of money, this should not be an issue. We literally had 18 wheelers, jackknife in a construction zone.

I think this woman made the biggest mistake of her life buying a junk Chevy! She is going to regret that purchase everyday. After replacing an engine and two transmissions and my 23 Silverado I sent that roach down the road and I went back to Dodge Ram. I've never had any major issues with Ram trucks. This woman should have bought a Ram truck and my opinion. Chevys and GMCs of the worst and Fords aren't much better.

I currently have a 2020 Silverado 1500 6.2 v8 with the Z71 off road package. Six thousand miles into it and I had to have it towed to the dealership for an engine valve job. Fortunately it’s been reliable after it was fixed. I’m going on 91k. The transmission definitely seemed loose and shifted hard when first driving in the morning and for the first couple of years. I haven’t experienced it in the last 3 years. In the old days, it was said don’t judge a new pickup until you’ve driven it at least 6k. The infotainment has locked up and requires restarting the pickup, but it’s been a rare occurrence. The most problematic issue has been the electronic tailgate latch. I drive roads with a lot of fine dirt kicking up. I will have to press the latch several times to open. Spraying a lubricant helps. There was only one recall for the seatbelt. Otherwise a clean bill of health on this particular model. Overall I have been happy with it. A few weeks ago I asked the Chevy shop advisor about the reliability of the newer pickups for in case I traded mine in. He said if it’s a 6.2, stay away from buying a used 2021-2024. He felt the newer 2025 was okay. The bottom line to protect myself for the repairs, I add the bumper-bumper extended warranty on the vehicles I’ve purchased for the past 12 years. When added into the financing, it’s minimally noticeable on the payments. It’s insurance against coming up with big dollars for a repair. It’s served me well on a couple of other different manufacturer vehicles. The reality is for the high cost of these pickups, they should be built very well and extremely reliable. But that’s not always the case.

I have had many Chevy Trucks 1994 which had no problems 354,000 miles going strong traded in for a 2012 which at 175,000 I have had three engine new computer and many other parts. Still trying to keep it going and recoup some of my money. We bought a new 2021 which we are not the happiest with at 30,000 mile it sounds like a tin. At this point we are going to try and sell the 2021 we haven’t decided which truck to get Dodge-Ford?

Bought a 2024 Trailboss in December. Three months later after a short lake trip it came up dead the next morning. After charging batteries all kinds of warnings came up. Was at the dealership for 10 days before I got it back. They said it was caused by a short in the glove box. Don’t really believe that and I cringe every time I try to start it.

I’ve had two Silverado's both bought brand new the 2006 had the 8.1. It was using a quart of oil between oil changes and was told they would keep an eye on it. Total piece of junk engine got regular oil changes had to replace the engine. They quit making the engine before it was even paid off. Bought a 2020 had the 6.6 and it set a service engine soon code and I was told not to worry about it. I sold the truck with 8000 miles on it. Funny how i keep buying junk save your money buy a Truck up to the job not a 60.000 dollar mistake…

I have a 2025 chev high country 2500hd with 6.6L gas engine. So far it is the worst vehicle I've ever owned and by far the most expensive. The foremost problem is a high idle speed in 1st gear. When in a parking lot or in slow stop and go traffic it will stay at 1500 to 1800rpm for as much as 13 seconds on level are uphill grades. It can only be stopped by extreme hard braking. The brakes are working good because if I put it into neutral when trying to stop it will put you through the windshield. It has spent 2 1/2 weeks at the dealership where they recognized the problem, but where told gm head office that's the way it is. The dealership said I need to talk to gm myself because they were getting nowhere with them. I contacted gm and I was told to take it back to the dealership and then I got another call shortly after telling me don't take it in . The representative said they are not going to do anything about it that's the way it is programmed and that's the way it stays . I have had a collision that did fairly minor damage, but it was caused by high idle in close quarters. If this had happened a couple seconds earlier it would have severely injured a person by crushing his legs . This vehicle is very unsafe
I have very calm a courteous with gm but no cure or concern for safety.

I traded in a very nice 2018 Silverado LTZ22 for a 2025 Trail Boss LT. I got mine with the 5.3 V8 which has plenty of power. Have just under 10k on it now and still no problems! Quite expensive though!!

Have a 2021 Silverado LT trail boss with the L87 6.2 and love it. Stay away from the 0-20 oil and delete the start and stop also the DFM. The best thing to do is get Pulsar LT and a 95 mm throttle body. Also go with 5W-30 Triax oil. All you have to do now is enjoy the ride.
