Lucid Air Named Luxury EV Of The Year By Cars.com

It's another accolade for Lucid's first production EV, with the online marketplace giant praising the Air's styling, interior, and "mind-melting acceleration."

Another day, another award for the Lucid Air, today named "Top Pick" for 2022's crop of luxury EVs by Cars.com. The Top Picks report was released by the site as part of its 2022 EV Buying Guide and examined more than 30 electric vehicles across four categories: Value, Families, Luxury, and Commuter. Cars.com reports that EV searches on the site have doubled over the last 12 months.

The Top Picks from the other categories are:

  • Value: Volkswagen ID.4, thanks to its low starting price and large list of standard features.
  • Families: Hyundai Ioniq 5, for its spacious interior and composed ride quality.
  • Commuters: Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV, for their range (259 and 247 miles respectively) and compact footprint for easier city driving.

Top Pick Luxury: Lucid Air
The Air received glowing praise from the Cars reviewers, exceeding expectations and beating competitors in key areas:

"The first offering from upstart Lucid, the 2022 Air, is simply a next-level EV and a game changer for the market. With a base price of $170,000, the currently sold-out Air Dream Edition offers a stunning amount of cargo space, a multimedia system that’s more responsive and easier to use than Tesla’s, styling that’s incredibly slippery and still dead sexy, and an interior that rivals luxury-brand benchmarks for opulence and finish. The Air also handles as well as some of the world’s most high-powered sports sedans and provides mind-melting acceleration while managing to deliver a quiet, comfortable ride."

A Growing Trophy Cabinet
The Luxury EV Top Pick award is the latest in a long line of trophies bestowed on Lucid and its flagship sedan since customer deliveries began with the inaugural Lucid Rally in October 2021. The Cars.com accolade follows the Air being named best car to buy by Green Car Reports and winning the highly-coveted MotorTrend Car of the Year award for 2022. Reviews of the Air have been overwhelmingly positive, with praised heaped on the Air by the UK's Top Gear and Roadshow's Daniel Golson praising it for its "911 GT3-like handling." The Air also finished runner-up for the 2022 North American Car of the Year award and featured in a three-way tie for Best EV at MotorWeek's Driver's Choice Awards.

Lucid recently opened its 23rd North American Studio in Toronto, where I got the chance to have a poke around an Air Grand Touring in person. Suffice to say it looked the part, presenting itself even more favourably in the metal than it does in pictures. Read my full impressions here. Announced with the Toronto Studio's opening was a new partnership with Electrify Canada, which will provide two years of free charging to customers who place Air reservations before June 30th 2022. You can read more about that at this link, and here's one to the Cars.com EV Buying Guide.
