Karl, a Cybertruck owner from Southern California, reports that his driver's side door stopped working after leaving his truck parked in the rain.
He explains that this was the first storm in his area. He hurried to get into his truck, but the door wouldn’t open, leaving him stranded in the rain.
Thankfully, the issue was only on the driver’s side, so Karl was at least able to seek shelter inside his Cybertruck by entering through another door.
This is certainly not ideal; however, the situation is even more baffling: Karl says his driver-side door sometimes works, but only if he rolls down the windows first.
The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.
He writes…
“Yesterday was the first storm in Southern California, and in the middle of the rain, my driver's side door refused to open.
I had to use another door, go inside, and roll down the window to open the door.
I called the emergency center and, after trying various solutions, scheduled a service appointment, but the next available opening was 17 days away.
I decided to go to my nearby service center, and they didn't have a loaner car to leave my Cybertruck for diagnosis.
So, in the rain, I drove to another service center that provides loaner cars. To my surprise, they had never heard of a door getting jammed. Does anyone else have the same problem?”
This is definitely not ideal, and looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners understandably wanted to get more clarification.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Mike from Texas, asks…
“Does it work when you open the door via the app or only when pressing the button on the side panel?”
In response, Karl writes…
“The door only opens when I lower the window. Using the app, I can open all the doors except the driver's side.”
This situation is quite unusual; however, after Karl left his Cybertruck at the service center, he provided additional updates.
While at the service station, the Cybertruck's doors began working on their own, and the technicians returned the vehicle, stating it had no issues.
According to Karl, Tesla staff explained that water entered the doors, causing the malfunction, but the doors started working again once the vehicle dried.
He writes…
“The Cybertruck is at the service center, and currently, they can't see the problem. The computer doesn't show any fault.
Today I'm going to pick up my Cybertruck. They tell me there's nothing wrong with the door; apparently, water went inside, but now it's working fine.”
This is surprising; however, other Cybertruck owners have reported similar issues after tinting their windows.
During the tinting process, water can seep into the door panel and short-circuit the electronics, leading to door malfunctions.
Going back to Karl’s situation, even though his door started working again on its own, he’s still dissatisfied with how the Tesla staff handled his complaint.
Karl writes…
“We are thankful to have three service centers nearby, but I'm not sure if they are aware of the issues.
I'm dealing with the younger generation that claims to know everything except customer service.
They treat you like you're crazy with your requests, and their explanations about the issues sometimes don't make sense.
I'm a car enthusiast who owns my own dealership. When it comes to warranties and problems, I often ask for a manager because I know what is covered and what isn't.
Last month, I brought in my Cybertruck because the tire covers were becoming misaligned with the tires and were damaging them. They wanted to charge me for new covers and labor, claiming it was my fault.
I have a few thousand miles on it, and my Cybertruck is a show truck for my business, so it’s NOT my fault; it’s a defect of the materials. They saw the problems and agreed with me. They replaced the covers for free.”
