Carlos, a Cybertruck owner from Florida, reports that his truck’s passenger-side door keeps opening on its own.
Carlos adds that every time he leaves his vehicle, the side-view mirrors fold, the truck beeps notifying him that it’s shutting down, and then the doors open on their own immediately.
This is definitely a bizarre behavior, and Carlos mentions that it began today after he got his windows tinted.
Carlos, confused by what’s going on, shared his experience on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.
Carlos writes…
“Passenger door opens by itself.
When I walk away from the Cybertruck, it locks, folds the mirrors, and makes an audible sound.
However, within a few moments, the passenger door pops open as if the door handle had been pressed.
It might not open as far, but then the alarm goes off. I close it again, and it opens again.
As a temporary fix, I just turned off the security system. This started happening after I had the windows tinted today.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this?”
It’s certainly a headscratcher why the door would start behaving this way following a window tint.
However, looking at the comments, several Cybertruck owners reported that their Cybertruck doors also began to exhibit similar behavior after tinting their windows.
The problem appears to be related to the water used during the tinting process, which helps the film stick to the windows.
Water seeps into the Cybertruck door panel during tinting, damaging the electronics and causing the doors to open automatically.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Nick from Florida, reports experiencing similar issues.
Nick had to replace two of his Cybertruck door panels, and since the problem started after an aftermarket job, Tesla refused to fix his Cybertruck under warranty.
He had to pay $1,000 out of pocket to get his Cybertruck doors functioning properly again.
Nick writes…
“The same thing happened to me. Basically, the tinting caused fluid to drip down into the door and fry some electronic components.
I had to get both front door panels replaced. It ended up costing $1,000 since it was an aftermarket tint.
Honestly, I think it's a design flaw with the truck. So, the lesson is if you're getting the windows tinted, tell them to be very careful with fluid.”
Another Cybertruck Owner, Tony, seconds this sentiment, writing…
“This just happened to me today. I’ve never had an issue with any other car I’ve tinted.
I own a 2025 non-Foundation Series Cybertruck. I just got the window tinted, and right after I left, I stopped at the supermarket. While inside, my app notified me that Sentry Mode had been triggered, but I had no idea why.
When I walked out to my truck, I saw that my passenger-side door was cracked open, and my window was slightly down.
This has happened three times since I got home — once when the truck was locked and twice when it was unlocked.
I hope it dries out so I won’t have to spend more money on repairs.”
A fourth Cybertruck owner, Ben, shares that, similar to the others, his truck also started to exhibit spontaneous door issues after he got the windows tinted.
Ben says the behavior stopped briefly after he rebooted his vehicle; however, the issue returned once the sun came up, and it started to get hot.
Ben writes…
“I got my Cybertruck tinted yesterday, and after parking it in my driveway, the driver's door opened by itself and the alarm went off.
This happened several times until I found this forum. I left the door open and turned off Sentry Mode.
Today, I decided to reboot the car and was able to leave the doors locked for a few hours without any issue.
However, once the sun came out and warmed up the car, I noticed the door problem and alarm going off again.
I plan to wait another day or two to see if the issue resolves itself.”
A fifth Cybertruck owner from California reports facing similar issues, and he confirmed with a Tesla employee that the tint job caused the door malfunction.
He writes…
“Happened to me after a window tint. Fixed under warranty, but even the Tesla repair notes indicated that the tint job most likely caused the issue.”
Overall, looking at the comments, several Cybertruck owners appear to be experiencing an issue with their doors after installing window tint.
