Jeff is a Cybertruck owner from Virginia and says his wife has turned from a Cybertruck skeptic to a fan during a recent snowstorm.
Jeff excitedly shared that his wife's conversion came after having a hot meal, and the lights kept on in the middle of a power outage.
Jeff says not only did his wife become pro-Cybertruck, but she also blurted out, “Thank you, Elon Musk!”
The excited Cybertruck owner shared his wife’s transformation on the Cybertruck Owner Club forum.
Here is what he wrote…
“Thank you, Elon Musk", said my wife as she became a Cybertruck fan during a power outage
This is what my wife said a few minutes ago as we finished our hot supper.
Here in the mid-Atlantic, we had an ice storm roll in overnight.
Last night at dusk, a couple of hours before the storm was supposed to arrive, I backed the Cybertruck up near the house, dropped the tailgate, plugged the 50' generator cable going to the well into the 240v outlet, plugged the 10 AWG extension cord into the 120v outlet, threw the tarp over the open tailgate, and called it a night.
This morning, right on cue, the utility power went out.
My wife hadn't been particularly enthusiastic when I picked up the Cybertruck last summer. Today, she became a fan.”
Below his post, Jeff shared a picture of his Cybertruck providing power to his house.
As you can see, there is a thick yellow electrical wire connected to the Cybertruck’s bed outlet and this is what’s powering his house.
What’s interesting here is that Jeff didn’t even have to install Tesla’s Powershare system to supply backup power to his home using his Cybertruck.
Jeff was able to connect the 240-volt bed outlet with his home’s built-in generator inlet and call it a day.
Using this approach rather than going with the Powershare installation slightly decreases the peak power Jeff could draw from his Cybertruck.
The 240-volt bed outlet has a peak 9.6 kW power limit, whereas a Powershare installation that draws power through the charge port can go up as high as 11 kW.
In the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners expressed excitement about the prospect of simply connecting their Cybertruck to the home generator inlet to power their house during an outage.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Vin from Princeton, writes…
“Charging up your Cybertruck before a storm and then plugging a cord into a home generator inlet is a game changer.
Powershare what?”
A fellow Cybertruck owner from Florida simply responds by writing…
“Yes, I agree.”
Other Tesla fans also shared that they felt their decision to buy a Cybertruck had been vindicated.
Some owners even say it’s a fundamentally better financial decision to buy a Cybertruck, ignoring some of the controversies surrounding Elon Musk and politics.
A Tesla fan, Tashi from Colorado writes…
“Indeed, fundamentally people should take care of their finances & fundamentals instead of being 'too emotional' about what's going on with Politics these days.”
Overall, it’s interesting to see Cybertruck owners feeling vindicated that they’ve made the best financial decision.

Pretty expensive back up battery. there are much better solutions on the market than a Cybertruck. good idea for a post and guess she still is not so excited about: but a post.
You cant really drive it in the snow at night without cleaning the front and back to have the lights free: and I think it is a dog in the portfolio and if anybody was managing Tesla atm they would drop it from the line-up: but Elon breaking things: now breaking lots of things including TSLA. Hang in there Tesla Team.

So she likes having a back up battery? I’m sure there are cheaper and better alternatives than that ugly beast. “Oh need a power source incase the power goes out like it frequently does - I know instead of buying a generator / BES I’ll buy an ugly nigh car to park outside”
Except family is knackered if you’re not at home with said vehicle and power goes out….

I personally don’t believe that electric vehicles (EVs) will retain their value in the future. I think car manufacturers will adopt a strategy similar to Apple’s, where after a few years, you’ll no longer be able to “update” the software, essentially forcing you to purchase a new model. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems like a significant possibility.
I have a 25-year-old Rolex watch as well as a new Apple Watch. If I were to list both for sale, which one do you think would sell for a higher price?
I believe the same will happen with EVs, which may become quite ordinary.

Ford Lightning does this too plus it’s an actual truck, not a silver dumpster that gets stuck in snow. Terrible purchase. Rethink your priorities random guy in this story.

What a ridiculous reason to justify this useless car. For the price of this misguided development, you could install photovoltaics including a storage battery and heat pump. Don't buy Tesla's.
