Elon Musk has confirmed that the Tesla Cybertruck will get a significant boost in charging speed in Q3 2025.

Musk states that the Cybertruck’s charging power will increase to 500 kW, up from the current maximum of 325 kW.

The primary way Tesla is achieving a 53% increase in Cybertruck charging speed is through an upgrade to the company’s proprietary superchargers.

This quarter, Tesla plans to begin rolling out the first V4 supercharger cabinets.

Supercharger ‘cabinets' are the backend electronics that power the superchargers, and are distinct from the supercharger ‘stalls’, which hold the charging cables.

Even dating back to 2023, Tesla has been installing V4 supercharger stalls. These stalls feature a new design with longer, thinner charging cables and built-in support for both NACS and CCS ports.

However, to date, the V4 supercharger stalls have been paired with the last-generation V3 and V3.5 supercharger cabinets. This means that although the V4 stalls are more capable, they have not yet been able to deliver faster charging speeds.

This is where the V4 supercharger cabinet rollout comes in to deliver a 500 kW charging speed to the Cybertruck.

Musk confirmed this exciting news in response to a Tesla influencer, Sawyer Merritt.

Sawyer posted on X, writing…

“It's officially Q3, which means Tesla is supposed to open the first next-gen V4 Supercharger cabinets this quarter, capable of 500kW charging speeds for cars & 1.2MW for Semi.”

Below, Sawyer continued his post, sharing some of the features coming with the V4 supercharger cabinet launch.

Sawyer continues to write…

“Highlights:

• Faster charging: Supports 400V-1000V vehicle architectures, including 30% faster charging for Cybertruck. S3XY vehicles get 250kW charge rates, which they already experience on V3 Cabinet — charging up to 200 miles in 15 minutes.

• Faster deployments: V4 Cabinet powers 8 stalls, 2x the stalls per cabinet. Lower footprint and complexity = more sites coming online faster.

• Next-generation hardware: Cutting-edge power electronics designed to be the most reliable on the planet, with 3x power density enabling higher throughput with lower costs.

To be clear, V4 Supercharger stalls have already been out for a while, but this V4 cabinet paired with the V4 stall is what enables 500kW charging (1.2MW for Semi).”

Sawyer’s post is exciting; however, it primarily serves as a recap of what Tesla promised back in 2024.

What makes Sawyer’s post newsworthy is that Musk has confirmed the V4 supercharger cabinet launch is on schedule and that the 500KW Cybertruck charging speed will debut in Q3 2025.

Musk made this announcement by reposting Sawyer’s tweet to his 220 million followers on X.

Elon Musk Confirms Tesla Will Increase the Cybertruck’s Charging Speed to 500 KW This Quarter – “53% Peak Charging Speed Increase”

Regrettably, Musk did not provide any additional details about the Cybertruck’s increased charging speed beyond the content included in Sawyer’s post.

Having said that, based on Tesla’s previous communications about the upcoming V4 supercharger cabinet launch, we know that this upgrade will increase the Cybertruck’s peak charging speed to 1,302 miles per hour.

This figure represents a theoretical maximum, assuming the charging rate remains constant from 0% to 100% and that the Cybertruck features a significantly larger battery pack than it currently does.

However, a more accurate way of stating this is that if the peak charging speed remained steady from 0% to 100%, a Tesla Cybertruck could fully charge in under 12 minutes.

This would be great; however, the charging speed will inevitably decrease as the battery's state of charge rises.

Alongside the upgraded 500 kW charging capacity for the Cybertruck, according to Tesla, the V4 cabinets offer additional advantages.

Max de Zegher, Tesla’s Director of Charging, states that the V4 supercharger cabinet will not only support faster charging speeds but also be more affordable, easier to install, and more dependable.

Max explains that the V4 cabinet's design eliminates the need for DC bus bars between cabinets, simplifying installation, reducing costs, and enhancing the reliability of the V4 superchargers.

Max also mentions that the V4 cabinet offers a 2% boost in charging efficiency. Although this may appear small, Max highlights that worldwide Tesla Superchargers deliver over 5 TWh of electricity annually.

Considering this large figure, a 2% efficiency gain results in saving more than 100 GWh of electricity annually.

Overall, according to Elon Musk, Tesla is on track to launch the V4 supercharger cabinets this quarter, offering a range of upgrades.

Tesla fans and Cybertruck owners eagerly anticipate faster supercharging speeds. However, it’s important to note that Chinese automakers, such as Li Auto, are already achieving 600 kW charging speeds, enabling their vehicles to go from 10% to 80% charge in under 10 minutes.

Used to be interested (years ago) as a trailer tow vehicle. Lost interest when the price almost doubled and tow specs came out. There's a "WhistleStop" YouTube video, destructive testing of a CyberTruck vs. F-150: there's no strong frame. They broke the frame: the hitch + bumper came entirely OFF!

No it would not make me rethink my cancellation. Charging faster is a bad solution to the real problem, you can’t use the truck as a truck without a massive range problem.
