Alan Hensley, a Chevy Silverado 2500 owner from Florida, says he’s planning to replace his diesel truck with a Cybertruck.
Alan mentions that he owns a construction company and currently uses the Silverado for work.
However, recently, he test-drove a Cybertruck and says that within just one drive, he fell in love with the electric truck.
Alan notes that although his Chevrolet truck is great for work, it’s becoming costly to maintain, and fuel expenses are adding up.
He adds that by switching to a Cybertruck, he’s looking to save money on maintenance and fuel while also gaining additional features.
Specifically, Alan states that he wants a truck with self-driving capability and bed outlets so he can operate welding machines and other equipment directly from the truck.
Although excited to switch to a Cybertruck, Alan still has some reservations about how the Cybertruck will perform on the job site.
The curious Cybertruck enthusiast shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
He writes…
“I test-drove a Cybertruck the other day, and I fell in love with it.
I’ve never owned an electric vehicle before. I own a construction company. Does anyone have a Cybertruck they use for construction, and if so, what are your thoughts on it?
I have a Chevy 2500 diesel, but I’m looking for something that’s self-driving and has access to all the power outlets so I can charge batteries, run a welding machine, etc.
Additionally, the maintenance on the diesel is becoming increasingly expensive, along with the fuel, so I’m looking to save money as well.”
Alan definitely seems excited about the Cybertruck; however, looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners had varied responses.
A few pointed out some of the challenges of using the Cybertruck as a work truck, especially when used for towing.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Al Perry, writes…
“If you're towing under 125 miles per day or driving 250 or less, you will love the Cybertruck.
Use your other truck for circumstances beyond that.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Mike Pungitore, writes…
“I just traded in my 2018 GMC Sierra Denali HD 3500 for the Cybertruck All-Wheel Drive. Wish I hadn’t waited so long.
The only complaint I have is that towing drains the battery, but if you’re not towing all the time, make the switch. No regrets so far. Two weeks in.
I own a landscape company, and we use the other trucks to tow”
A third Cybertruck owner, Andrew Eh, writes…
“If you're doing it for the electricity, yes, go with the Cybertruck. If it's for towing, avoid it. EVs can tow, but their endurance is inferior to that of gas and diesel vehicles.”
A fourth Cybertruck owner, Dave Jewett, writes…
“I sold a 2024 Chevy diesel and bought a Cybertruck. Short of towing long distances, the Cybertruck is an exponentially better choice. I don’t regret it at all.
If you tow more than, say, 100 miles a day, it isn’t for you. If not? It’s an amazing alternative.
I recently sold my 2024 Corvette Z06. The Cybertruck is easily faster than the Z06 up to about 80 mph; it isn’t even close. Beyond 80 mph, the Z06 is faster, but since you spend 99.5% of your time below that, the Cybertruck simply outperforms.”
A fifth Cybertruck owner, Kazuma Terada, writes…
“If you are frequently towing, using power sharing, or driving long distances, I highly recommend getting a Cybertruck with unlimited supercharging for life. I still use my Toyota Tundra occasionally.”
A lot of Cybertruck owners believe the truck is inadequate for towing long distances.
However, in response, Alan says he only drives 120 miles a day and that his Chevrolet truck costs him $165 to top up. He shares that by switching to a Cybertruck, he’ll save a lot of money.
Alan writes…
“I drive about 120 miles a day. It costs around $165 to fill up my Chevy Silverado, and I can get about 520 miles on a tank of diesel. Oil changes cost about $250. So, I’m hoping to save money on fuel and maintenance.
I love the Cybertruck’s features. The truck has self-driving capability and multiple power outlets to charge the power tools we use daily.”
After speaking with the community, Alan goes on to say he has made up his mind and will finally be getting a Cybertruck.
He writes…
“I appreciate all the comments, thanks. Yes, I’m going to buy a Cybertruck. I was a little unsure about owning and using it for construction, but I think it will meet my needs and also save me money on fuel and maintenance.”
Alan seems convinced that the Cybertruck will be more cost-effective and reliable. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
