Beware of the new Chevrolet Tahoe and the GMC Yukon SUVs.

Erica Kate (@ericakate_/) urgently warns GM buyers in her TikTok clip. Her experience with the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2025 GMC Yukon has been nothing short of a nightmare. Her story is a compelling one, and it's crucial for potential buyers to hear it before making a decision.

Check out her unbelievable story and see if you disagree with her evaluation.

Erica says, "Beware of these newer high-priced SUVs. Especially the Tahoes and now potentially the Yukons too."

Picture yourself buying a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe. You like the sporty look, it's a great family hauler, but its poor reliability left you stranded on the side of the road. Not once, but twice. This not only inconvenienced you but also raised serious safety concerns, especially with your kids in the car.

The first time was scary because your kids were with you, sitting on a busy road as cars flew by at high speeds. You called a tow truck after your husband got the SUV home, had the Tahoe towed to the dealer, and left it for ten days while the Chevrolet dealer tried to figure out what was wrong.

The loaner vehicle, another GM product, was a nightmare.

The Chevrolet Equinox sounded like it was falling apart if you drove it over 45 miles per hour on the highway. This experience just added to the overall dissatisfaction with the Tahoe.

Ten days later, the dealer says your Tahoe is fixed, but you get a warning light on your dash as you drive home. It tells you to slow down, reduce power, and get it to the dealer as soon as possible for service.

You say goodbye to the Tahoe

Now, tired of the Tahoe's constant breakdowns, you decide to trade it in for a 2025 GMC Yukon. You had high hopes for the Yukon, but it too is having issues. This turn of events only adds to the disappointment and disillusionment with GM's SUVs.

Here is Erica's story.

She says, "I have the least success with vehicles, and I'm trying hard not to crash out. So, I had a Chevy Tahoe and loved the car; it was beautiful and fun to drive. But guess what? It left me on the side of the road. The Tahoe almost killed my entire family."

"I had it towed to the Chevy dealer, which was embarrassing. It sounded horrible as they were pulling it onto the tow truck. My neighbors probably thought the bank was repossessing it because the tow truck was in my front yard."

"So, for the next ten days, I was driving a Chevy Equinox that I got from the dealer for a loaner while my Tahoe was being fixed. If I went over 45 miles per hour, it sounded like a souped-up golf cart or lawnmower."

"It sounded like I was going to blow up the engine. So, I was stuck in this loaner car for ten days."

"I finally get my Tahoe back, and guess what? I get a warning on my dash that says, "Reduced Engine Power, Drive With Care." I would love to drive with care, but my Tahoe would not drive. I could not drive it."

Erica is done with the Tahoe.

"So, now, it's back to the Chevy dealer. You know what? This is ridiculous. I'm not doing this. So, I traded the Tahoe in. I told the dealer that it's a piece of crap and your'e going to take it back, and they did."

"So, I bought a new 2025 GMC Yukon. I love my Yukon. I call it my granny mobile.  It's not as sporty as my Tahoe, but I love it because it's more luxurious."

"Ok, so guess what?"

"I received an email yesterday that says there is a recall on my brand new GMC Yukon. The recall says it's for the "Loss of Engine Propulsion," which is why they are recalling it."

"But it gets so much better, just wait."

"Now, after I take it to the dealer, they tell me that no remedy is available. So, I said That's weird. What does that mean?"

"So, after doing some research, I found out that GM does not have the parts or the ability to fix the problem, and what's wrong with it, or they don't know how to fix it."

"So, if this new Yukon leaves me by the side of the road, because of 'loss of engine propulsion,' there's a good chance that GM will put me in another vehicle."

Erica wants a Reliable Vehicle.

Erica concludes, "The point is, I have a brand new vehicle. I'm tired of these new high-priced Chevrolet and GMC SUVs that are unreliable. So, I want the look of the Tahoe, but the reliability of a Honda or Toyota. I need someone to invent that vehicle."

Are There Reliability Issues With the new Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon?

The new Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon have some reliability issues, though they are generally considered reliable vehicles overall. Consumer Reports notes some common issues, including paint/trim problems, suspension/steering issues, exhaust problems, and engine electrical problems. However, it's important to note that these vehicles also offer powerful engines, spacious interiors, and advanced technology features.

Consumer Reports says, "We expect the 2025 Tahoe will be less reliable than the average new car." CR gives the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe a very low overall reliability score of 27/100. The powertrain gets a 1/5 score, and the engine gets a 1/5 reliability score.

They say, "The 2025 Tahoe could develop major problems with the engine, such as a rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt issues."

Repair Pal also says the 2025 GMC Yukon will be less reliable than many new full-size SUVs. RepairPal gives the Tahoe a 3.5 out of 5.0 reliability rating, ranking it 21st out of 26 for midsize SUVs.

Specific Issues Reported:

Chevrolet Tahoe:

  • Oil Consumption: Some owners report excessive oil consumption.
  • AC Malfunctions: A/C system issues are reported, including failures and leaks.
  • Transmission Problems: Some owners have experienced transmission issues, including hard or delayed shifting.
  • Electrical Issues: Electrical problems like flashing interior lights and dashboard cracks have been reported.

GMC Yukon:

  • Hard Shifting: Owners report rough or jerky shifts, particularly during acceleration or deceleration.
  • Delayed Shifting: A delay in engaging gears, especially when shifting from park to drive or reverse.
  • Exhaust Issues: Some owners have experienced exhaust rattles or leaks.
  • Interior Problems: Issues like upper dash cracking, broken door locks, and flashing lights have been reported.

Overall Reliability:

J.D. Power: The J.D. Power reliability ratings show the Tahoe with a slightly better score (82) than the Yukon (78).

Real-World Experiences: Some owners have reported issues like check engine lights and limp mode at low mileage, according to Edmunds.

Important Considerations:

  1. Warranties: Both the Tahoe and Yukon have standard three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranties.
  2. Maintenance: Proper maintenance can help extend the lifespan of both vehicles.
  3. Individual Experiences: Reliability can vary depending on individual driving habits, environmental conditions, and maintenance practices.

Conclusion:

Erica is giving GM one more chance, and if the 2025 GMC Yukon is unreliable, she will look for another car brand, possibly Toyota or Honda. However, she likes the looks and features of both the Tahoe and Yukon. Like all full-size SUV buyers, she wants reliability over everything else.

Yes, I've had new tahoes for the last 12 years. The oil pump went out while it was still under warranty. During the first year second year it went out again. Then I had to replace the transmission. The vehicle is 6 years old and now it needs another oil pump and a new motor. My engine light is on again. my service manager said there's so many things wrong with those vehicles. They should have recalls on them. I will never buy another Chevrolet again. I am looking at a Toyota as we speak.

I bought my 2025 Tahoe in February and I couldn't be happier with it. I was not enjoying the auto stop mode so I simply turn it off as soon as i start the car. It has such a smooth ride, and it's so quiet. I drove a Nissan Rogue for several years, prior to this vehicle, and this car is so much better! I love all of the features, including the very large touchscreen. I look forward to driving this for a long time.
