Consumer Reports Rates Ford Edge As Better Alternative To Chevy Blazer

In the early part of the then-new century, Ford developed a new model, the Edge. It was a tidy work that offered buyers the convenience of a two-row SUV in a nicely styled package. The Ford Edge has been around for roughly 22 years now, and it looks like it has about run out of its string.

Ford Edge Always A Stable Seller

With its sales numbers, the Edge has never set the Ford world on fire. However, it has been a very stable sales piece for the automaker, much like the Flex, which was also a strong seller early on. Instead, the Edge has remained a contender in the years it has been sold.

Ford, though, has just announced to the Ford Authority (FA) that the Edge will be ending its production run this upcoming March. The Edge, a Consumer Reports favorite, has entered its final months unchanged.

Consumer Reports has given the Edge “a long list of accolades over the years, including naming it one of the best SUVs for $40K or less, not just once but twice.”

CR has also named the Edge “one of the best American vehicles on sale and a superior choice over its rival, the Chevy Blazer, back in 2021.” The Edge has again earned the same plaudits from the country’s leading consumer magazine.

FA said, “This information comes to us from the organization’s latest list of popular mid-size crossovers/SUVs to avoid and what to buy instead, a regular feature that aims to point out the fact that just because a specific model might sell well, that doesn’t mean it is reliable or even worth buying at all.”

Thus, FA explains, “CR lines up every vehicle in a specific segment and compares them to each other based on its recommended status, testing results, owner surveys, reliability, and presence of safety features.”

Indeed, CR has called the Chevy Blazer a vehicle to avoid for various reasons. The Blazer “has an overall score of just 60 out of 100 possible points for starters, with blow average reliability and poor predicted owner satisfaction scores.”

For starters, “with below-average reliability and poor predicted owner satisfaction scores,” CR notes that the Blazer leaves much to be desired.

In that regard, CR calls the Chevy Blazer a vehicle to avoid for various reasons. For starters, the Blazer has an overall score of just 60 out of 100 possible points, with below-average reliability and poor predicted owner satisfaction scores. CR notes that the Blazer is “more focused on styling and comfort than utility, and it leaves much to be desired in terms of power and fuel economy, too.”

Named A Stronger Alternaitve

FA notes that on the “flip side, the 2024 Ford Edge has been named a superior alternative to the Blazer thanks to its above-average predicted reliability score and excellent road test scores.” CR has also called the Edge a “roomy and capable SUV.”

Dealers Are Biggest Drag on some EV sales

The Edge “reportedly accelerates smoothly and quietly, offers up plenty of interior space, an isolated cabin, and an impressive number of standard features.”
