Owners of 2014 Chevrolet Silverados are hot about AC problems

The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado has many drivers hot under the collar because of continual problems with the truck’s air conditioning. There are multiple forums dedicated to the same issue. Some drivers had problems right after buying their pickups. Others are suffering with sweltering temperatures right now.

One forum I checked has 19 pages of complaints dedicated to the air conditioning issues. The last post, in September of 2016, pretty well sums up the frustration. This 2014 Silverado owner says he has had to take it in for repairs every three months. “This was my first new car to me. I was planning to buy one for my daughter, but not with this track record. I just had the AC fixed 2 months ago. Today, on the way home from work, the compressor seized and the belt broke. Now it's Friday, no service centers are open, and I live in the south so it is hot and I have no AC. I was planning to take the kids out on the boat, but I am not putting them in a hot truck with no AC. This may very well be the last Chevy I ever buy.”

This owner reported his problem, in late August of 2016. “So I have a 2014 Silverado crewcab. Last year during the height of summer with my kids in the truck my ac broke. I bought this thing new in June of 2014. So I take it in and it was a broken line. I was just a hair over the 36000 miles already in a year but the service guy took care of me. Well here we are now with the temps in the 100's in San Antonio 13 months after the ac was fixed, and it's broke again. I hate this truck.”

Other drivers are reporting similar issues. What appears to be the most upsetting is that the same issues keep reoccurring. The air conditioner suddenly starts blowing warm air. The owners say the repairs take time and never fix the problem for long. “Turns out the compressor and a
hose went out on it. Warranty took care of it but I was left without a vehicle for a few days and upset that practically a new vehicle was already having issues. Got my truck back and about 2 months later guess what? You guessed, the a/c went out again and another compressor went bad.”

A check of the website that monitors complaints about all vehicles, finds that there have been 11 formal complaints made about the ongoing problems with the air conditioning on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverados.

One owner named Brad, from Little Rock, says a dealership finally levelled with him and told him what the real problem is. Brad says they told him “They have a design flaw in the metal part of the hose so we replace the hose and add a support bracket. I asked them why the 2016 models do not have the bracket and was told the a/c hose was redesigned for them and the new hose would not work on a 2014 model.” Brad is furious because he had to pay for the repair and General Motors will not reimburse him.

Another owner, from Texarkana, adds “Was told by the dealer that a bracket had broken and a hose came loose and it would be 550.00 dollars to fix. Time to change brands.”

There have not been any recalls issued for the hose and bracket problems, but it sounds like the issue is wide spread enough that dealers should be aware of the proper repairs. If you are having your AC repaired, It might help to point out all of the complaints and see if you can get it replaced under warranty, or if they will work with you on bringing down the price.

End of last summer our 2914 Silverado started blowing hot air. We filled ac up two times leaked out. Took it to auto zone they wanted to replace whole system. We decided to wait til this summer to get it fixed. Took it to Chevy dealer and after a few days days they said condenser is bad. They want $1800. 00 to fixit . We said okay but no parts still available. We have only 71,000 on it. We really didn’t use air that much. We also had a cobalt that continually had problems with oil filters. Cap for them was plastic and would crack. Got rid of that vehicle. Thinking about trading in for a Toyota, our Tacoma had 200,000 miles before air broke down.

I have the same AC problems as above on my 2014 Silverado, 90km. What I cannot understand is what the truck will just not blow fresh cool air. Here in the NE, late summer, the air is starting to cool down but the truck is blowing hot air. Very frustrating. I love the truck. Bought it brand new. It is not our daily driver. We have had other troubles but GM looked after those. The radio/ computer screen has been replaced 4 times.

I have a 2014 I have no a.c. and my power steering doesn't work. Checked on recall for power steering but my truck doesn't have a recall when I look up my VIN which is BS because of all these issues I probably won't ever buy a GM again 20000 dollar truck and it's had more problems than anything I ever owned

I guess I'm in the same boat with all of you. I'm 80 years old and have owned nothing but Chevrolets my entire life, except for two Fords and one Dodge Ram. I have bought so many new GMC trucks over the years, and never had any problems except for the normal recalls until now. I had my 2014 Silverado LTZ special ordered and made for me. I've had it since January 2014, and only have 42,000 miles on it. I've had absolutely no trouble or complaints until now. My son and I headed into town yesterday, and it was warm enough to require turning the AC on. We turned it on and guess what, we have the same problem you'll have. No warning or anything, just blows warm air. Might be my last Chevy!!

I got a 2014 Silverado ltz and since having problems with my A/C 3 years ago I've replaced condenser, pump.. the high side line I've replaced about 6 times and bracket was installed on the 3rd time but still made no difference..I've use gm and aftermarket lines but it keeps leaking on the bend coming out of the pump every time..on the 6th time i replaced the pressure release valve hoping that was the problem but no such luck, this time it was the low side line instead ..each time it is fixed it only works for a few hours...I'm not going to mention all the other problems...gm keeps making garbage trucks and the customer has to deal with it..i will never own a gm product again ..
