Owners of 2014 Chevrolet Silverados are hot about AC problems

The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado has many drivers hot under the collar because of continual problems with the truck’s air conditioning. There are multiple forums dedicated to the same issue. Some drivers had problems right after buying their pickups. Others are suffering with sweltering temperatures right now.

One forum I checked has 19 pages of complaints dedicated to the air conditioning issues. The last post, in September of 2016, pretty well sums up the frustration. This 2014 Silverado owner says he has had to take it in for repairs every three months. “This was my first new car to me. I was planning to buy one for my daughter, but not with this track record. I just had the AC fixed 2 months ago. Today, on the way home from work, the compressor seized and the belt broke. Now it's Friday, no service centers are open, and I live in the south so it is hot and I have no AC. I was planning to take the kids out on the boat, but I am not putting them in a hot truck with no AC. This may very well be the last Chevy I ever buy.”

This owner reported his problem, in late August of 2016. “So I have a 2014 Silverado crewcab. Last year during the height of summer with my kids in the truck my ac broke. I bought this thing new in June of 2014. So I take it in and it was a broken line. I was just a hair over the 36000 miles already in a year but the service guy took care of me. Well here we are now with the temps in the 100's in San Antonio 13 months after the ac was fixed, and it's broke again. I hate this truck.”

Other drivers are reporting similar issues. What appears to be the most upsetting is that the same issues keep reoccurring. The air conditioner suddenly starts blowing warm air. The owners say the repairs take time and never fix the problem for long. “Turns out the compressor and a
hose went out on it. Warranty took care of it but I was left without a vehicle for a few days and upset that practically a new vehicle was already having issues. Got my truck back and about 2 months later guess what? You guessed, the a/c went out again and another compressor went bad.”

A check of the website that monitors complaints about all vehicles, finds that there have been 11 formal complaints made about the ongoing problems with the air conditioning on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverados.

One owner named Brad, from Little Rock, says a dealership finally levelled with him and told him what the real problem is. Brad says they told him “They have a design flaw in the metal part of the hose so we replace the hose and add a support bracket. I asked them why the 2016 models do not have the bracket and was told the a/c hose was redesigned for them and the new hose would not work on a 2014 model.” Brad is furious because he had to pay for the repair and General Motors will not reimburse him.

Another owner, from Texarkana, adds “Was told by the dealer that a bracket had broken and a hose came loose and it would be 550.00 dollars to fix. Time to change brands.”

There have not been any recalls issued for the hose and bracket problems, but it sounds like the issue is wide spread enough that dealers should be aware of the proper repairs. If you are having your AC repaired, It might help to point out all of the complaints and see if you can get it replaced under warranty, or if they will work with you on bringing down the price.

Pulling the vacuum on a hot Memphis day as I read the comments here. Wife's 2014 Denali with 60k on it. Thank goodness it was only her condenser. What a joke GM, but it's on us. Oh on my 99 F-250 7.3 power stroke with 350k on it. I put a can of 134 in it last year for the first time.

My a/c works but digital temp readout is not showing on the temp control knobs, so I can't regulate the temp. It stays at temp when readout went out.

2014 silverado LTZ crew cab. 2nd time around, I am going to get my AC fixed. Blows a lot of hot air. From the sounds of it, I'm not the only one. Headed back to Ford if I have to fund this.

2014 Silverado with just over 47000 miles and lost the condenser. $1400.00 to replace and no help from GM or local dealer. Never had lost a condenser in 50 years of owning cars. Last GM to ever be in my driveway and have told children and grandchildren to stay away form GM . My Camry just goes and goes and never has issues

My a/c just went out. Heard a whining sound while driving. Looked under hood and there was refrigerant all over the engine compartment filled with aluminum flakes and 2 pieces of aluminum sitting on the frame. I believe that I also lost a hose. It just blew apart! 75,000 miles. I'm in Michigan so the a/c system has less than half on it.

We too have a 2014 Chevy Silverado with an A/C problem. We have gone so far as to call GM and have gotten nothing but the run around and our dealership refuses to assist us or admit there are any problems with belts or condensers. HELP!!!!

Federal Trade Commission 18773824357 attorney general for your state BBB and consumer affairs through attorney general and if gmc has a Facebook or something on line post your comments there also the more people who do this the better chances are they will have to address this problem

Rebecca Dover (not verified)    July 11, 2019 - 7:52PM

If your on this page that means we are all dealing with Chevy or GMC I talked with the federal Trade Commission 1-877-382-4357 and the more complaints they receive the greater our chances are to make them pay back the money they have made us pAy they know there is a problem but don’t seem to care I also contacted the BBB and GMC which they could care less I’m also putting it on my Facebook page I have also placed a complaint to the attorney general so if we all band together and contact these people hopefully we can get some answers as well as a lawsuit against them

Ive bought gm pickups for 30 plus years, I figure I've spent 500,000.00 plus or minus. I have a 2014 that has had the ac worked on 3 times and it still doesn't work.
Im done!! it seems GM doesn't care what customers think. Im a ford or Ram guy now.

Please people call the attorney general about this issue and the federal trade commission the more people who call and place a complaint the better our chance are of making them pay for this

My A/C went out last year on Silverado- 2014, and dealer wants 1200.00 to fix. Compressor is locked up, seems like their is a lot of problems with it, and GM should recall it, repair at no cost to owner since with all I've read it is shoddy, cheap parts from Mexico or China and charge the US citizens a high price for poor paid labor and parts.

Same Issue, just Bought my 2014 Silverado 4 months ago and Bracket broke and AC hose came loose. now i have to pay $300 to get it repaired.

Dawn Bailey (not verified)    September 13, 2019 - 6:01PM

I just dropped off my 2014 Silverado to the dealership due to the A/C blowing out hot air. I was told the condenser cracked and they want to charge me $1400. I was also told by the dealer that they just got down doing another one with the same problem! GM NEEDS TO PAY FOR THIS AND PUT OUT A RECALL! I'm starting to hate CHEVY, there's been so many recalls on my 2014 the dealership has it more than I do, I'm about to start charging them for rental fees!

Ive owned a 1993, 1995, 1999 ,2002 and now a 2014 GMC . All pickup trucks. Two had over 200, 00 miles with no problems with the A/C unit . My 2014 has 63 K miles and now needs the condenser replaced after just replacing the water pump. Fords seem to have transmission problems so I
think I'll try Toyota next. No more GMCs for me.

thomas mauldin (not verified)    February 10, 2020 - 4:02PM

Mine went out in December. Looked online and saw video showing crack in the condenser. Same place as mine...Mechanic told me to bring it on, he'd replaced about 50 in the last few years.

Mark Crosby (not verified)    May 19, 2020 - 9:35AM

My 2014 GMC pickup had to have the leaking water pump replaced after just 60,00 miles. After 63,00 miles the A/C quit working. Low on refrigerant. The condenser is leaking refrigerant. It will cost $750.00 to replace at our local shop.Im sure it would be in the thousands at a dealership. had a 1999 and still have a 2002 GMC that had the original water pump and no leaking A/C unit with 160 K miles. I'm going to trade in my 2014 for a Toyota P/U.

2014 Silverado doing the same! All these issues i’ve read about in the comments sounds like my truck! Don’t know why there hasn’t been a recall!

Last week, my 2014 silverado 36,600 miles bought new November 2013 had the AC compressor & belt go out, cost me $1500 for repair. I was on the road traveling in South Florida, hot & humid with family, had no choice & fortunate dealership had all parts there... still, on my 2014 silverado, my driver side door & rear door lock actuators went out after warranty expired so can't lock/unlock the door with key fob & must push down manually to lock. I am very disappointed Chevy/GM won't do a thing to fix known problems.

Bought a brand new Silverado in 2014 I have had nothing but problems with it. Small problems like rattle in dash to major problems. Fixed ac twice already. New hoses, new condenser new relay switch, now the pressure switch went out. Replaced upper control arm drivers side. Now I'm having transmission problems ( probably bad torque converter) I've bought chevy trucks my whole life I have a 1991 with a million miles on it. Also bought a 2001 with 450,000 miles before I traded for this one. Wish I would've kept it. So if you have a 2014 good luck. Worst Chevy I ever bought. I say good luck because you'll probably have more problems.

I fixed the rattle on my 2014 dash. I Googled dash rattle on 2014 Silverado & watched a video showing how to take off lower dash panel below steering wheel, sure enough I had 4 screws that were obviously loose & almost ready to completely fall out. No loctite or nothing was applied on these screw threads. I just retightened them & by doing so eliminated my dash rattle problem. Very very easy fix thanks to Google directing me to a you tube video. To remove the panel was only 2 or 3 easy access screws.

I have a 2014 silverado with 17000 miles air conditioner stopped working recharged lasted about one day. This is bad--sad. I don't think I will buy another.

2014 silverado a\c blowing hot air. Condenser leaking. It's a known problem GM knows about but refuses to correct . faulty contenders compressors etc. Something needs to happen with this issue. Have a 2009 impala also and have never had any problems like I do with truck. No more chevy products for this family since they won't repair parts they know are defects.

2014 Chevy Silverado, AC started blowing hot air, condenser had a pin hole in it.
$1200.00 to fix. Why no recall on this yet? Last Chevy for me!!
