The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty Will Face Off Against the 2020 Jeep Gladiator for Truck of the Year

The finalists have been announced for the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year.
This year will see a battle between two of FCA's top vehicles.

Two of Fiat Chrysler’s biggest success stories will be facing off in the competition for North American Truck of the Year. The finalists for the award were announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty is competing against the 2020 Jeep Gladiator for the top honor. The third contender is the 2020 Ford Ranger.

2020 Ram Heavy Duty Just Won a Huge Award

It will be a tough decision for voting members of the Automotive Press Association. The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty is a spectacular vehicle. Just this week, the 2020 Ram Heavy Duty was announced as the 2020 MotorTrend Truck of the Year.

“Ram Heavy Duty is MotorTrend’s 2020 Truck of the Year because it delivers unmatched performance, capability and style to the ultracompetitive truck segment,” said MotorTrend Editor-in-Chief Edward Loh. “Engineered for work and play, Ram 2500 and 3500 reward true truckers with unflappable powertrains, sumptuous, high-tech interiors and a range of thoughtful utility features. Congratulations to Ram for back-to-back Truck of the Year wins.”

“The new Ram Heavy Duty makes a powerful statement about our company and the Ram Truck brand,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand. “In a brutally competitive truck industry, earning MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year title in consecutive years reaffirms the fact that we have the best light- and heavy-duty trucks on the road today.”

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is Extremely Popular

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator has been the darling of the media ever since it made its debut this year. The truck was highly anticipated and fans are loving the agility of the Wrangler, combined with the convenience of a truck bed.
Best of all, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is a Jeep at heart. It is designed for off-roading but it can also tow up to 7,650 pounds and carry 1,600 pounds of payload. Those numbers give it best-in-class towing and payload for mid-size trucks. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator also comes with all of the fun bells and whistles that Jeep lovers appreciate, like easily removable roofs and doors. Fuel economy is 17 MPG city and 22 MPG highway on the automatic, so the mid-size truck is fun and functional. It can easily be both a work and recreational vehicle.

It will be interesting to see what the voters decide. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is truly an all-new vehicle with great new perks and amenities. The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty has been seriously upgraded, with huge towing capability and more luxurious interiors. The 2020 Ford Ranger is also a dynamic pickup in the mid-size arena.

Other North American Car and Utility Finalists

The three contenders for the 2020 North American Car of the Year are: the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the Hyundai Sonata and the Toyota Supra.

The finalists for the 2020 North American Utility of the Year are: the Hyundai Palisade, the Kia Telluride and the Lincoln Aviator.

The winners of the awards for the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year are typically announced during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, in January. However, the NAIAS is moving to June in 2020, so the awards will be announced January 12th, at the TCF Center (which everyone will forever call Cobo Hall).
