Ford Recalls Ranger And Mustang Models Due To Issues With The Brakes And Seatbelts

Some Ford Rangers may experience power-brake assist failure, while certain Mustang models can have issues with the seatbelt pretensioners.

In 2025, Ford “won” the title of the car manufacturer with the most service recalls. During the last year, the blue oval issued 153 separate recalls. Granted, some of the runner-ups might surprise you, especially considering Toyota and Honda are also in the top five carmakers with the most recalls (I’ve also included the next five in the link). Sadly, the American company isn’t slowing down on that front, as it recently issued two more recalls.

These relate to the Ford Ranger and Mustang, which are plagued by different issues. The two service recalls are not related to each other.

Certain 2024 and 2025 Ford Ranger models are recalled due to brake-assist failure

A large number of Ford Rangers produced between 27 June 2024 and 2 June 2025 can suffer from a loss of power-brake assistance. This could lead to extended travel of the brake pedal and longer braking distance, increasing the risk of a crash. A total of 340,756 units are affected, including vehicles sold outside of North America.

Ford has listed the recall under number 225S77. You can check your VIN on Ford's website to see if your vehicle may be affected. If the vehicle is affected, dealerships will repair it free of charge.

Despite the larger number of recalls, Ford’s trucks continue to perform well. This is especially true for the Maverick and Ranger, which are some of the most popular compact pickup trucks in the US.

Over 405,000 2014-2017 Ford Mustangs recalled due to possible corrosion of the seatbelt pretensioners

The Ford Mustang situation isn’t as extreme, but it may still cause potential harm. This isn’t even related to the newest iteration of the iconic pony car. Still, an even larger number of the S550 Mustang is being recalled due to possible corrosion of the front seatbelt pretensioner. This may reduce the seatbelt’s effectiveness as it may not hold the occupants in place during abrupt movements or a crash, leading to increased risk of injuries.

This is related to pre-facelift models produced between 14 February 2014 and 2 October 2017. Newer S550 Mustangs, as well as the current S650 generation, are exempt from this recall, at least for now. The total number of affected cars is 405,963. Ford listed the recall under code 25S92. The service bulletin includes vehicles sold outside of North America. The solution is an inspection and a replacement of the pretensioner.

Ford may have the most service recalls in 2025 but there is a bright side to that as well. It is not uncommon for carmakers to continue producing vehicles despite certain components being prone to failure. Often, this happens without any or with half-measures being taken. I am not advocating for anyone here, but the service recalls show that the manufacturer is acknowledging and working to fix these issues.

If you have had any experience with some of these issues or with any recalls, feel free to share your insight in the comment section. It may prove useful to other owners in the future.
