Tesla seems to be temporarily pausing Cybertruck deliveries nationwide because of an issue with firmware, batteries, or both.

The first person to report this issue is Michael from Michigan, who says he was scheduled to pick up his new Premium All-Wheel Drive Cybertruck last Friday.

However, an hour before his scheduled pickup, Tesla employees contacted him to inform him that his delivery couldn't take place that day.

Michael shared the following in the Cybertruck Owners Club.

“My new 2026 Premium Cybertruck was scheduled for pickup today at the Tesla service center. I’ve been waiting about 6 weeks since the order date.

I received a call about an hour before the appointment, informing me that Tesla had frozen all Cybertruck deliveries nationwide due to a necessary software update that must be performed on the vehicle before handing it over to the buyer.

According to the service tech, this applies to all recent production Cybertrucks. They hope the update will be released today, so I can pick it up tomorrow. This all sounds suspicious to me and makes me think there’s something bigger going on. Has anyone experienced a similar situation with a service center?”

After a while, Michael gave an update, writing…

“UPDATE: The service center tech called this morning and pushed my Cybertruck pickup date to Wednesday.

At first, he was vague about the reason for the delay, but when I pressed him, he said it was because all Cybertrucks pending delivery need a firmware update to receive the latest software version.

He mentioned that ‘regions’ of the country were behind and catching up, specifically for Cybertrucks. He made it sound like a routine issue, but I don’t think it is. I could be wrong since this is my first time dealing with a Cybertruck.

Frustrating…… Nothing like this happened when I bought my Tesla Model 3 a few years ago.”

This is certainly an intriguing issue; however, looking at the comments, other Cybertruck buyers also reported that their delivery dates have been inexplicably moved.

A fellow Cybertruck buyer, Erich from Kentucky, writes…

“My delivery was scheduled for 5/09/26 in Louisville, KY. It's the AWD Premium Cybertruck. I just received a call this evening from a Tesla Adviser stating it has to be delayed due to an inspection flag in the system.

He said he can't see the reason for the inspection because he's in Sales, but when Service comes in on Monday, he'll give me an update on the next available delivery date and time.

I definitely don't want to take delivery of a new Cybertruck only to have to schedule service immediately because it left the factory with a recall. I'm pretty disappointed, though, to be told the night before my delivery that it needs an inspection, so I'll need to reschedule.”

A third Cybertruck buyer from Pennsylvania writes…

“At least I'm not the only one. I don't feel quite as singled out now.”

The delivery halt appears to have affected many Cybertruck buyers starting last Friday; however, today, more buyers report that a week later, they still haven’t been able to take delivery of their trucks.

Michael returned to say he still hasn’t been able to take delivery of his Cybertruck.

Michael writes

“Delivery issue with firmware

Is anyone else experiencing problems with their new Premium all-wheel-drive Cybertruck delivery? Mine has been sitting at the service center (confirmed) for over a week, awaiting a firmware update.

It is currently running version 2026.14.3, and they won’t release it until 14.6 is loaded. Does that sound correct? Why couldn’t they release it to me and let me receive the update through my garage Wi-Fi when it's rolled out?

It has been a very frustrating week of back-and-forth with scheduling the pickup.”

This is definitely not ideal; however, in response, other Cybertruck buyers shared that they, too, are dealing with this issue.

A fellow Cybertruck buyer from South Dakota writes…

“There’s more to it than just a firmware update. My Premium AWD Cybertruck has been on containment hold, along with three others, for the last three weeks at the service center… Is your VIN series 94xxx?

A third Cyberturck buyer from New Jersey writes…

“I was supposed to take delivery on 5/9, but there's a containment hold. They mentioned something about the battery and are checking if engineers can release it or if they've ordered the part, which should arrive next week with a two-day turnaround. My VIN is in the 95xxx range.”

Overall, there appears to be an issue specifically affecting recent build Premium All-Wheel-Drive Cybertrucks. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.

My original delivery window…

Eric (not verified)    May 19, 2026 - 11:38PM EDT

My original delivery window for my Cyber truck was May 8–11, and I actually went to the lot with my son and saw my truck in person. While looking at it, a service tech approached us and told us it was on a containment hold for a potential connection problem within the battery. He said it might turn out to be nothing and they're just waiting on engineering.
Since then, I've called multiple times and gotten different answers:
* It needs a software update.
* No info, just "containment hold."
* It needs a final inspection.
This Sunday, a rep from the Irvine location called me back. He explained 200 trucks were recently released to SC that they are now actively watching, which triggered the containment holds. They are clearing about 30 trucks every three days. He said it’s a great sign my truck doesn't have an active repair order attached to it yet. Hoping it gets cleared and released without needing a fix!

However all the forums I’ve been on I have not heard of anyone getting a Cyber truck after 5/8/26. But then again maybe it’s just the containment hold people on the forums and the rest are out having a great time in their new truck.
