A Cybertruck owner from Houston, Texas, says he jumped at the chance to help a friend whose vehicle was stuck in a muddy field.
The friend had decided to avoid traffic on the freeway by driving across an adjacent muddy field.
Driving a Range Rover Defender, the friend felt confident, but his not-so-well-thought-out plan left him stuck in the field.
The Cybertruck owner, eager to showcase his truck’s capabilities, decided to go to the rescue and drove onto the muddy field himself.
At first, everything seemed fine, and he managed to pull his friend out of the quagmire. Regrettably, in the process, he also got his Cybertruck stuck in the same muddy spot.
That's not exactly the outcome he was hoping for—what's more, he ended up needing a rescue himself, this time from a Ram pickup truck.
The Cybertruck owner shared his experience of going from hero to damsel in distress on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.
He writes…
“A friend of mine decided to get creative and cut off the freeway through a muddy trail to avoid traffic. That plan went about as well as you’d expect, and he got himself stuck.
The mighty Cybertruck came to the rescue. I was able to pull him out, but then I managed to get myself stuck and had to be rescued by an ICE truck.”
This is definitely embarrassing; however, the Cybertruck owner says he doesn’t want to blame the truck and believes it’s his fault for not properly dialing in the off-road settings.
He also added that even if he ended up getting stuck, he was impressed by the Cybertruck’s off-road capabilities until he became the one needing to be rescued.
The Cybertruck owner continues to write…
“Overall, I was actually pretty impressed with how the truck handled it, even with the ending.
I definitely need a refresher on the Off-Road app and settings. When you’re in the middle of mud and rain, you quickly forget all the stuff you read.
I’m sure I could have chosen better settings, locked the diff when needed, etc.”
Below his post, the Cybertruck owner shared several pictures and a video of the rescue effort.
In the video, you can see the matte-black-wrapped Cybertruck spinning its wheels and getting stuck in the mud, before a Ram pickup truck comes to the rescue and pulls it out.
The whole area was quite muddy, and it took a few people working together to help free the Cybertruck, leaving everyone covered in mud.
This is definitely not ideal; however, looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners blamed the driver, not the truck, for getting stuck.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Tashi from Colorado, writes…
“The old saying: bad carpenter blames the tool.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Richard from Arizona, writes…
“Sorry it happened. On a side note, a large number of people get 'stuck’ — whether it's sand or mud. It's usually the driver's fault, often due to poor terrain assessment and inexperience. (EVERYONE MUST GET STUCK ONCE.)
Get out, assess the best route to see how deep and soft it is, and prepare the truck accordingly—lock the differential, rock it back and forth if needed, and bring a rescue board. Keep the wheels straight; don't just keep spinning them. Always let air out of all tires to around 20 PSI or teens for ice. Focus on prevention through smart preparation, route choice, and technique.”
A few Cybertruck owners also offered tips on what the owner could have done to get his Cybertruck out of the mud on his own.
One Cybertruck owner writes…
“I think it was a setting issue — raise the height, lock the diffs, and drop the air pressure would be my non-expert advice.”
In response, the Cybertruck owner says he followed 2 of the 3 recommendations, but he still got stuck.
The Cybertruck owner writes…
“Raise the height - Check
Lock both front and rear diff - Check
Drop air pressure - Did not try, but I suppose it would have helped with traction.”
Overall, it’s always embarrassing to begin as a hero only to end up needing rescue. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
