Tesla Received 3 Million Job Applications In A Single Year Thanks To The Elon Musk Effect

Today, Tesla, together with the company's annual impact report announced that in 2021 the EV maker received 3 million job applications. This is in large part thanks to Tesla's charismatic CEO Elon Musk. And suggests in 2021, Tesla received 100 applications per job opening.

Tesla is currently in a massive growth phase. The EV maker recently inaugurated two new factories, one in Austin Texas, and another in Grunheide Germany. And within a few months after Giga Berlin’s inauguration, the EV maker is already looking to expand the factory with a new land purchase adjacent to the current plant.

Tesla also recently announced it will be building a new factory next to Giga Shanghai that can produce 450,000 vehicles a year. In addition, Tesla is also looking to increase production capacity by as much as 50% at its Fremont California plant.

According to Elon Musk, Tesla currently employs 110,000 people directly and over 500,000 indirectly. However, in order for Tesla to achieve its bold expansion plans, the EV maker will need to increase its workforce even more.

Attracting quality workers at this scale would seem an impossible task for most employers however, thanks to Tesla's charismatic CEO the EV maker doesn’t look like it is facing a shortage of applicants.

Today, Tesla, together with the company’s annual impact report, announced that in 2021 the EV maker received 3 million job applications. In 2021, Tesla increased its workforce by 30,000 which means for every available spot at Tesla, the EV maker received 100 applications.

This is an incredible advantage for Tesla and the EV maker has its CEO, Elon Musk to thank. Musk, unlike most company founders, is less motivated by financial reward but more by solving fundamental societal problems that will positively affect humanity at large.

For example, Tesla’s mission statement is “transitioning the world to sustainable energy” and Musk’s other company, SpaceX, has the lofty goal of making humanity a multi-planetary species.

This allows Tesla to attract some of the brightest, most passionate, and hardworking employees in the world. And what is even more impressive is that Musk’s companies attract all this talent while offering wages lower than their competitors.

Only 4 years ago, Tesla was on the brink of bankruptcy however, the EV maker has now grown to become by far the biggest automaker in the world. And if Tesla continues attracting new talent at this rate, there doesn’t seem to be an end to what the EV maker can accomplish.

As of now Tesla still makes up only 2 percent of the worldwide annual vehicle output. However, Musk has said Tesla’s current focus is to scale production to incredible levels. And we will be sure to keep you posted as the EV maker achieves more milestones.
