A Tesla Cybertruck owner says he caught someone vandalizing his vehicle on video, reported the incident to police, and the suspect was arrested within two hours.
Most people in this situation would be happy to see the culprit go to jail, but this Cybertruck owner is conflicted about pressing charges.
And the main reason, according to the Cybertruck owner, is that the person who vandalized his truck has a very promising career, and he doesn’t want to jeopardize it.
This is certainly an interesting predicament, and the conflicted Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
He writes…
“If someone vandalized your truck and you catch them on video, within 2 hours, they get arrested and they have a good career. What would you do?
Do you let it go, or do you press charges? Do you even ask for money for repairs?”
The Cybertruck owner did not specify the extent of the damage to his vehicle; however, considering his conflicted mindset, it seems the damage was probably not severe.
Whatever the case, it’s still surprising for a person to feel bad about sending someone to prison, especially when they justify it by saying the assailant has a very good career.
Having said that, looking at the comments, other Cybertruck owners weren’t as forgiving towards the suspect.
Most Cybertruck owners wholeheartedly supported the idea that the Cybertruck owner should press charges and seek the harshest sentence possible for the assailant.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Matthew Ballew, writes…
“Absolutely, press charges. They had plenty of time to think about their actions before deciding to do what they did.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Christopher Barger, writes…
“Press charges. I’ve always let stuff slide, and you always lose.
If you have the chance to make them pay and feel some pain for it, by all means, do it.
Send a message.”
A third Cybertruck owner agrees with this sentiment and goes one step further, saying that even considering not pressing charges is wrong and reflects weakness.
He writes…
“The idea that there are consequences for your actions should be reinforced. Specifically, regarding the Cybertruck, this is a widely known and highly publicized item at this point.
“You should have known better” doesn’t apply in this case. Everyone knows, especially on the Cybertruck—(you vandalize a Cybertruck, you are a domestic terrorist—Trump).
Whether you agree with that statement or not doesn’t really matter; the fact is, it’s known, and anyone choosing to vandalize a Cybertruck anyway is the kind of person who needs to be introduced to our legal system and pay for the damages.
Leniency in this case? Forget it. Even asking this community as you are, anonymously, smells of a lefty who gently parents.”
In response to all the people pushing him to press charges, the Cybertruck owner says he has decided to do so, but only reluctantly, and he feels bad on a human level.
He writes…
“On a human level, I do feel bad for someone losing a job, doing 2-5 years of jail time, and paying fines.
I can afford repairs. Probably, attorneys have to check their records to see if they have prior convictions. I am pressing charges, but reluctantly.”
At this point, a fourth Cybertruck owner, Per Korslund, asks…
“What does their career have to do with it? They committed a criminal act and need to face the consequences for their actions!”
In response, the Cybertruck owner says if charged, the suspect will be facing felony and hate crime charges.
He writes…
“We are discussing hate crimes, felony charges, and so on!”
Despite these concerns, most Cybertruck owners say that if he committed the crime, he should serve the time.
