Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD, says Tesla has cut off all communication with him after he sold his Cybertruck.
MKBHD shared the details during his recent appearance on George Saliba’s YouTube channel, an online content creator in the automotive industry and one of the largest car dealership owners in the US.
George Saliba, on his namesake YouTube channel, recently posted a video titled “Tesla Stopped Talking to MKBHD, So He’s Borrowing One of Ours to Review.”
In the video, MKBHD appears to have come to George Saliba’s dealership to borrow a Model Y to review on his channel.
MKBHD says,
“Tesla stopped talking to me; it’s not because I gave a negative review, it’s just that I sold my Cybertruck.”
MKBHD continues…
“I sold my Cybertruck. I had a Rivian and a Cybertruck. I ordered them both even before seeing either one.
I got the Rivian. It was great. I got the Cybertruck. It was great. I didn’t need to keep both, so I sold the Cybertruck and kept the Rivian.”
MKBHD said he didn’t want to make a big fuss about selling his Cybertruck and announced his decision only on Instagram, away from the prying eyes of Tesla enthusiasts on X.
However, someone reposted MKBHD’s Instagram message featuring his Cybertruck with the simple caption “sold,” sparking some controversy.
A lot of Tesla fans attacked MKBHD, and in his recent video, he explains that many turned against him, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk even unfollowed him.
MHBHD continues…
“Some people on Twitter posted about me selling my Cybertruck and seemed to think I had turned against Tesla or something. Elon unfollows me on Twitter, everyone goes nuts.”
Finally, MHBHD says that after selling his Cybertruck, Tesla stopped responding to all of his communications.
He continues…
“I never hear from Tesla again.”
This certainly seems like an overreaction on Tesla’s part for simply selling a company’s vehicle.
What’s notable here is that MKBHD was among Tesla’s and Elon Musk’s preferred online creators. When the EV maker introduced the Cybertruck, he was one of only three publications granted early access to the all-electric truck.
However, fast forward two years, and Tesla has completely cut off all contact with MKBHD, and the EV maker is even unwilling to loan him a vehicle for review.
MHBHD’s videos receive millions of views, which could be a great opportunity for Tesla to gain free publicity as the company struggles to generate enough sales.
Personally, this seems like an overreaction from Tesla, and looking at the comments, a lot of people agreed that Tesla should not have banned MKBHD.
One commenter writes…
“Tech and car companies are hilarious. They expect brand loyalty even from people whose whole job is to give honest reviews.
On the flip side, they’re more than happy to do the most pro-shareholder, anti-consumer action multiple times a year, and we’re just supposed to be totally chill with it.”
Another commenter writes…
“Tesla has to stop the petty attitude/culture of the company.”
A third commenter writes…
“Elon really acts like a 8 year old.”
Overall, most people don’t seem happy with Tesla and Elon Musk’s decision to ban MKHBD. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
