Early Foundation Series Cybertruck owners are beginning to experience failures related to the truck’s power conversion system (PCS).
In a report a few days ago, we noted that many early Cybertruck owners are rushing to sell their vehicles before the seemingly inevitable PCS 2 error appears, which could render their trucks undrivable.
Currently, if this problem occurs, Cybertruck owners have the reassurance of the 4-year, 50,000-mile limited vehicle warranty.
However, early owners are concerned that this issue will arise after their warranty expires, potentially costing them thousands of dollars in repairs.
And these power conversion system failures seem to be spreading, as another Cybertruck owner, Ron from California, reports that he has also experienced the dreaded PCS issue.
Ron shared his experience on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners group on Facebook.
Ron mentions that after experiencing the PCS failure, he submitted a service request; however, to his surprise, he discovered that Tesla had already scheduled a PCS replacement for his Cybertruck.
He writes…
“PCS alert today on early Foundation Cybertruck. AC Charging Unavailable
This PCS issue seems to be happening more often with early Foundation trucks.
I took my truck to Tesla last week because I noticed lower amp charging at my home wall connector and suspected a PCS issue.
Tesla didn’t find anything wrong. Then this morning, I received the ‘AC Charging unavailable’ alerts.
When I submitted a service request, an activity was already scheduled for “PCS2 replacement.”
Wondering if this is now covered by a Service Bulletin or a recall.”
Below his post, Ron included a picture of his Cybertruck center touchscreen showing the PCS2 error that popped up.
The error code reads…
“PCS2 a094
AC Charging unavailable
Schedule service
PCS2 a035
Powershare unavailable
Schedule service”
This is definitely not ideal; however, looking at the comments, a lot of Cybertruck owners mentioned that they have experienced similar failures and that there is already a service bulletin for this issue, with Tesla close to issuing an official recall.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Steven Michael, writes…
“My Cybertruck failed yesterday. The lady at the Tesla service center said she has 4 more trucks with the same issue in front of mine.
She said it’s currently a service bulletin, but thinks it will be a recall very soon. Mine is a November 2024 non-foundation AWD.”
Another Cybertruck owner shares that he went into Tesla service to get new tires, and Tesla replaced his power conversion system without him experiencing any issues.
He writes…
“Recall would indicate a safety defect; in this case, it only affects charging, so it's a regrettable inconvenience but not a safety issue that requires a recall.
It seems they are replacing them when the truck goes in for service.
I went in for tires, and they did the PCS for me as well—super cool.”
A third Cybertruck owner, Jack Pesa, writes…
“Same issue. They replaced my early foundation Cybertruck PCS with a PCS2 error.”
A fourth Cybertruck owner, Chad Voelkers, writes…
“Both of our foundation trucks have now experienced this problem. It just started happening over the last three weeks.”
A fifth Cybertruck owner, Daniel Gallic, writes…
“Just got mine done. Looks like Tesla understands the deal. It took two days in the shop.”
A sixth Cybertruck owner, Branden Sprenger, writes…
“I had mine done nine months ago, and they said this never happens.”
Overall, the power conversion system failures seem to be happening in many older Cybertrucks over the past few weeks.
On the bright side, Tesla is aware of the issue, and Cybertruck owners who see the PCS2 error code or experience slower home charging should take their vehicles to a Tesla service center.
