Subaru Tries To Build More New Forester SUVs For The U.S. But Still Can’t Keep Up

Why is the 2022 Subaru Forester so hard to find in the U.S. market? Subaru released its factory export results, and it gives some insight.

Subaru Corporation is building the 2022 Subaru Forester as fast as possible and still can’t keep up with the demand. The compact SUV category is one of the fastest growing vehicle segments where the 2022 Subaru Forester resides, and the new models are as scarce as hen’s teeth.

Why is the 2022 Subaru Forester so hard to come by in the U.S. market? According to a source close to Subaru, customers who order the new 2022 Forester compact SUV must wait six months to get a new model. The Forester is only made in Japan, and it’s shipped all over the globe from its main factory in Gunma, Japan.

2022 Subaru Forester

The recent export from Subaru Corporation says production at its Japanese plant has seen its fourth consecutive month of increase in production, but its exports to other markets have seen their second straight month of decrease. In July, exports decreased by 4.9 percent, and through the first seven months of 2022, exports decreased by 6.4 percent.

The recent report also says sales in Japan have increased 34.8 percent, its second consecutive increase. Subaru Corporation is likely feeling pressure to keep more new Forester models for its local retailer network and give less to the U.S. market.

2022 Subaru Forester

Subaru has to juggle its 2022 Forester inventory because of the global shortage of microchips and the supply chain issues limiting the number of vehicles it can build. It’s a slippery slope for the Japanese automaker as they could sell more Forester compact SUVs. Still, they must satisfy their local Japanese retailers, U.S. customers, and Australia, Canada, Asia, and European markets.

When is next for the 2023 Forester, and when is it coming?

Subaru of America will announce the 2023 Forester compact SUV model change soon, but what can customers in the U.S. expect when it arrives? The 2022 Forester received a refresh, but Subaru won’t likely make any upgrades or changes to the 2023 models.

Will the 2023 Subaru Forester get engine upgrades?

The 2023 Forester will continue with the 2.5-liter engine with 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. There will be no engine upgrades, and the fuel mileage will remain the same.

What is the 2023 Subaru Forester fuel mileage?

The EPA recently released the 2023 Forester fuel mileage. The 2023 Subaru Forester compact SUV gets an EPA estimated 29 combined mpg and 26/33 city/highway mpg.

What is the price of the 2023 Subaru Forester?

There will be price increases on all 2023 Subaru Forester models because of the rise in supply and parts costs. Like the 2023 Crosstrek, look for the 2023 Forester to get a $600 price increase across all trim levels.

2023 Forester STI Sport

Subaru Corporation announced a new 2023 Forester STI Sport, but it won’t be coming to U.S. shores. Subaru brings the new Forester STI Sport with suspension upgrades and a turbocharged Boxer engine. Subaru has previously offered the Forester STI to customers in Japan, and customers in the U.S. can only look and not touch it.

Wait for the 2024 Subaru Forester

Customers should wait for the 2024 Subaru Forester compact SUV that gets a complete remodel with the exterior, interior, and possible engine upgrades.

The microchip shortages are expected to last well into 2024, and availability of the 2022 Subaru Forester and 2023 Forester will remain tight for U.S. customers. Stay tuned for the 2023 Subaru Forester pricing to be announced soon by Subaru of America.
