Toyota has announced a new customer support plan for vehicles with peeling white and blizzard pearl paint. The paint can degrade very rapidly. Some vehicles see the paint begin to come off in as little as one year. The problem affects nearly 2 million vehicles. The program will support you whether you are the original owner or purchased the vehicle used.

Toyota White Blizzard Pearl Support Program Phase 1 Notification
Toyota began notifying owners last year in the fall. The owners of Toyotas with white or blizzard pearl paint received a letter notifying them of the upcoming support.

Phase 2 - Repair
Toyota's second phase will consist of a repair made by your local dealer at no cost to you. Any authorized Toyota Dealership can determine if a condition is covered by this Customer Support Program, not just the one from which the vehicle was purchased.

Contact your dealer if you have an affected vehicle. They will tell you the schedule and plan for repairs to your vehicle. Those owners who wish to have direct contact with Toyota on this issue can call the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-888-270-9371 Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Saturday 7:00 am to 4:30 pm.

If you have a Toyota with Blizzard Pearl or Super White paint that seems defective please tell us about it in the comments below. Detail your contact with Toyota and how the issue is being handled. Your experience may help a fellow owner.

2006 Toyota RAV4, pearl white paint, blowing off in the wind all over the roof and front side areas, even the hood. Took to the local dealership and they said it was not under warranty and to take the matter up with Toyota Corporate. Waiting to see what they say. Lesson learned, dont buy toyota.

I have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma super white paint and mine is peeling in multiple places. Just called Toyota customer support and was told that mine is not covered under this recall but a complaint was filed with them for the issue. I was told that if more people complain about it then Toyota may do something to correct the issue.

My 2011 Highlander Blizzard Pearl is peeling Also! No explanation to why the 2011 Highlanders are not covered! Seems to me that ALL 2011 Blizzard Pearl Toyota vehicles SHOULD be covered.

I also have a 2010 Prius- that I love- with the exact same peeling paint. Not sure how toyota can say it peels off on some vehicles and not others. Dealers (two) both said its coming off the same way. I have had to repair so far. First repair- other sections peeled off as the dealer was prepping it to re-paint those areas- sad but true. I was finally able to get through to toyota (first two times- they didn’t even take my name or VIN- but put me on hold for an hour and a half until the survey popped up (how did we do?)). This time- they said the paint for the prius is not under recall- even though its the same description. Went to toyota’s FB page where they refer you to the call center (remember- i have been on hold for 3 hours at this point and have been sent to the survey on the first call)- as they don’t want that on their website. i have put two posts up there- neither appear- so have to assume they have been removed. Very irritated. Don’t even feel like I can wash the car without big pieces of paint chipping off. And- by the way- bare metal (not rusted) underneath that. Not sure how long it will take toyota to acknowledge it- if ever. Kind of like there are no problems with the water in flint. We pay a pretty hefty price for the vehicle- and for repairs and upkeep. Not sure why they have to have thousands of complaints before they will even think about looking into it. Happy this is not a defect that will cost people their lives.

2013 Highlander here. While washing my wife's car this weekend, noticed small area peeling on the A pillar next to the windshield and a spot about the size of a tennis ball on the roof near the rear hatch. I cannot believe this entire issue. We've been a Toyota family for years. I drive an 06 Tundra and the paint still looks great. Haven't contacted a dealer yet BUT, if this is not rectified, I can guarantee I have bought my last Toyota.

Im in Australia, and my Prado has the Blizzard Pearl and its peeling off in huge patches. Unfortunatley Australia are dragging the chain and wont honour a respray. Im so disaapointed as my car has always been garaged as I work from home. Do you have any advice for me, or is there someone with Toyota that i can directly talk with. thankyou

We own a 2011 Sequoia Platinum that has the white blizzard pearl paint. The paint on the rear hatch has begun to flake off and has bubbles where it is starting to lift. I was looking into a recall and it has been extended to 14 years on other vehicles with the same paint as mine. I spoke with Customer Expiriance Center and they told me that it was not covered for the Sequoia..
It is upsetting because our Sequoia is much more expensive than the other cars listed for the recall..

Frustrated

I have a 2010 Toyota 4 Runner -I had the same kind of paint peeling problems that everyone is describing. I also received a letter about a year ago from Toyota stating they were aware of the problem and they would notify me when a solution was decided on. I never heard back from them but started to research on line and found that Toyota was starting to paint vehicles with the peeling issue. I called my local Toyota store - they confirmed my vehicle was in the "enhancement" warranty and I dropped my car off. They took it to a body/paint shop and got an estimate and the approval from Toyota. 2 weeks later I picked my car up and it was completely repainted. Happy about that.

But - my mother has a 2008 Toyota Rav 4 with the exact same paint peeling issues. On line it says that the 2008 Toyota Rav 4 is included in the "enhancement" warranty but when I called the Toyota store and Corporate Toyota they said it was not. The Corporate Toyota representative said that although it is a 2008 that the production date of the vehicle was October of 2007 and that is why it isn't covered.

Seems like a sneaky technical way of getting around not having the vehicle covered for the very same issues the other vehicles are having.

I have a 2008 Lexus GX and the blizzard pearl paint is peeling off the roof and around the rear side windows. Lexus tells me the recall doesn't include my vehicle.

My 2009 RAV4 paint started to peel off a month ago while I was going down the interstate. Here I was getting ready to purchased a truck to replace the RAV4 and the paint starts coming off right above the front windshield !!! So much for purchasing a truck right now until I get the paint repaired. There is obviously something wrong with that white paint and it has been going on for years !!!

My 2012 Highlander with blizzard pearl paint is doing the same thing! Waiting to hear back if Toyota will approve painting it. I hope they do the right thing.

I have a 2012 RAV4 and the paint is coming off all over (roof, sides, front). I never received the original letter. Do I need that letter to take it to the dealership?

2007 Camry hood is peeling and paint flaking off down to the metal/primer in some places.

2011 Rav4 started peeling, took to dealership. At that time, they didn't have any knowledge about repainting. Took to Maaco, they quoted me for just the spots with the Toyota paint $700, for regular white paint for the entire car $600. November 2019 took to dealership again because of the paint peeling, those spots started to rust. Got a recall a few days ago, telling me to schedule a appointment for repainting, but they are ONLY painting where there is peeling. My issue is that if they only paint where it is peeling, the places that's not peeling can start peeling after the expiration date 2022. Then you have the same issue again. Plus the places that are rusting will continue to rust.

2010 Prius with Blizzard Pearl paint - reached out to Toyota USA last year when this began and they said "too bad" your vehicle is too old. Sounds like everyone else is getting the same run around. Is there any kind of an update on this issue?

My 2011 Highlander also in white pearl paint, is chipping off all over the place. I called Toyota and They said is not included in the extended warranty. What else could I do?

I have a 2013 Highlander with paint coming off around windshield and on the roof dealer said that should not be happening but I had to call Toyota. They said the Highlander was not included in the recall but if I get fixed on my own to save the receipt so if they add my Highlander to the recall I could get reimbursed.

I got a letter about the paint recall for my 2012 Corolla. Still haven't heard anything about getting it fixed. Now, my tint on all my windows has started bubbling up. It's factory tint so I hope they will fix that too. I love my car but the appearance is awful.
