Bench Seat vs Captain’s Chairs – 2024 Grand Highlander (with Video)

Toyota Grand Highlander is already proving to be quite popular with buyers.

This full three-row SUV provides a smooth and comfortable ride, plenty of passenger and cargo space, multiple powertrain options, a really nice looking interior, the latest technology and safety features, and seven paint colors.

There are even two different ways to configure your seating to accommodate either seven or eight people.

But how do you decide if your family needs a second-row bench seat or if captain’s chairs would be the best way to go?

2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Configurations

You will be able to pick from a 7-passenger and an 8-passenger seat configuration with your Grand Highlander.

Choose from three trim levels: XLE, Limited, and Platinum.

The XLE comes with factory captain’s chairs (7-passengers) in the second row, but you can upgrade to 8-passenger second row bench seating for no additional charge.

Limited has the same setup with a second-row bench seat standard, but with the option to switch to captain’s chairs for no extra cost.

Note: seating changes for Grand Highlander XLE and Limited must be done at the factory level, and not at the regional assembly port or dealership level.

The 2024 Grand Highlander Platinum is offered solely with second row captain’s chairs to fit seven people comfortably.

The nice thing about both seating configurations is that the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander provides full adult space in all three rows, along with what Toyota refers to as “ample cargo space” (20.6 cubic feet behind the third row) as well.

I have seen very tall people sit comfortably in both the second and third rows. This is very encouraging and reinforces just what a solid option the Grand Highlander is for families of pretty much any size.
