Toyota Sienna Owner: "Tankful for 10 Airbags" and "We Had Zero Issues With The Middle Seats, Following a Serious Crash

The owner’s 16-year daughter was driving when the accident happened, but thank God, everyone walked away uninjured.

It is not a pleasant day when you have to part ways with your new vehicle due to an accident, but it is good when everyone walks away unharmed, and you get a good deal from the insurance company as a bonus. One Toyota Sienna owner recently had a misfortune when her 16-year-old daughter was driving the minivan.

Here’s what the post says: “My 16-year-old daughter was driving.  All airbags deployed, we all walked away.  No problems with middle seats. Thankful for 10 airbags!”

The owner reveals further details about the accident in the comments, and she points out that a known and very dangerous issue with the Toyota Sienna did not manifest itself during the crash.

The Sienna’s middle-seat issue

2025 Toyota Sienna owner glad the second-row seats stayed intact during an accident, after a recall due to improperly installed railing

Approximately 55,000 units of the 2025 Toyota Sienna eight-seater were recalled due to an issue with the second-row seats. Improperly welded seat rails may cause them to detach during abrupt movements, such as during a crash. Toyota advised owners not to use the second-row seats until the issue has been resolved.

This being a 2025 model, the Sienna owner believed her minivan was among the affected vehicles. Luckily, the seats remained in their place, and all 10 airbags deployed as intended.

The owner’s daughter pulled out in front of a vehicle moving at 55 mph, while attempting to negotiate a left turn onto a main road. This resulted in the Toyota minivan losing its front apron, along with the headlights. Some wheel damage on the front right side is also visible, but for the most part, the damage has been contained at the very front of the vehicle.

Other members ask whether Toyota’s pre-collision system (PCS) had kicked in. Toyota’s Intersection Turn Assistance is meant to prevent these accidents, but sadly, it cannot make the other vehicle stop. This seems to be a classic case of a vehicle (in this case, the Sienna) jumping out and taking another vehicle’s right of way, without the other driver having time to avoid the accident.

At the time of the crash, the 2025 Toyota Sienna had almost 10,000 miles, and originally, the insurance company offered $46,000. After asking for more, they settled for a $48,000 payoff. According to the owner, the Sienna cost $52,000 when bought new, so we are looking at a well-spec’d model.

The owner said she posted this due to the known issue with the second-row seats. “I wanted to post because I know a lot of people are scared about whatever is happening with the middle seats and we had zero issues in the accident with the middle seats.”

Other owners from the group were keen to point out that not all 2025 Toyota Siennas were affected by the recall. Still, if you own one, it is always a good idea to check by inserting your vehicle details at Toyota’s official website. If you are a Sienna owner or have had any issues or relatable experiences, I invite you to share with us in the comments below.

Judging by the photo, it was a low-speed crash. Not surprising that everyone walked away. Car's a mess, though.
