Elon Musk States Cybertruck Will Have a Mod That Enables It To Traverse At Least 100 Meters of Water As A Boat

Elon Musk just stated the Cybertruck will have an add-on mod that will allow it to traverse at least 100 meters of water as a boat.

The Cybertruck As a Boat

In some of the more unusual news that I've seen lately, Elon Musk shared a comment, on X, about the Cybertruck. He had this to say:

We are going to offer a mod package that enables Cybertruck to traverse at least 100m of water as a boat. Mostly just need to upgrade cabin door seals.

This will allow the Cybertruck to be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat.

Notice that Elon said 100 meters of water and not more than that. This is clearly not a permanent thing - for the Cybertruck to act as a boat, but in the case of a flood or a need to go in the water, the Cybertruck will be able to do it.

I also think, based on Elon's past comments, that this doesn't mean 100 meters of deep ocean water with rough waves. I think this means more shallow water.

In order to traverse more difficult water, the Cybertruck would have to be modded much more and have propellers or the ability to be a submarine, with some major sealing to all crevices, and that would be a TON of work.

However, it could be possible that the mod would include some way for the Cybertruck to propel forward without its wheels touching the ground. After all, Elon Musk did say it would act as a boat.

And, at that point, is it really a Cybertruck or more like a Cyber-submarine or Cyber-boat?

The thing that's interesting about this statement is that there was no talk of this at the Cybertruck delivery event. It came an hour ago as of writing this article.

What other add-ons and mods are going to come out for the Cybertruck, and is Tesla on a path to make its vehicles much more "mod-able"?

I'd love to see more customizations available for the Model 3 and Model Y, for instance, in the Tesla shop. The Model X has some ambient lighting that is a nice add-on.

The Cybertruck has "wade mode", which allows it to go in 2.5 ft (0.76 meters) of water. Using a new technology called the scuba pack, that will use the truck's built in air suspension to pressurize the battery.

The First Videos of the Cybertruck As a Boat

The first videos that show the Cybertruck as a boat are going to be heavily watched. The reason is one, it is unique for a vehicle to add this as a customization. But, the second reason will be to see just how viable it is. People are going to push the Cybertruck to its limits to see how much water it can take on.

How does the Cybertruck traverse the water? It seems it would have to be in shallow enough water that the wheels can still touch the bottom of the ground. I am not aware of any other way for the Cybertruck to move forward in the water unless its wheels are touching the ground. As I said earlier though, with Elon Musk saying it will traverse the water as a boat, there has to be some way it will do it.

The Cybertruck is proving to be a multi-faceted vehicle. It will be the ultimate police car due to its bulletproof steel exoskeleton and shatterproof windows.

It will also be quite the attraction at any music show - or anywhere a lot of people are gathered. The Cybertruck is such a unique vehicle that it draws people to it. There are Cybertruck videos that had people chanting its name.

People will likely be wanting to pay the first Cybertruck reservation holders who take delivery a premium just to showcase the Cybertruck at their event.

At this time, we don't know what the cost of this mod will be or when it will be available. We do know that it will likely require adding some kind of sealing capability to the Cybertruck doors and possibly windshield.

Do you see any other uses for the Cybertruck besides a police car, an attraction, a safe vehicle and daily driver? What do you think about Elon Musk's comments here? Will people buy the add-on for the Cybertruck to allow it to be a boat?
