Richard Edel, a Cybertruck owner from Minnesota, says his brand-new truck was damaged while parked at a Tesla service center.
Richard mentions this morning he sent his truck to Tesla for a routine service checkup, but while it was in the lot, a vehicle transporter crashed into the back of his Cybertruck.
This is definitely not ideal, and the frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
He writes…
“What a frustrating experience with Tesla! I dropped off my brand-new 2025 Cybertruck at the Golden Valley Service Center for routine service, and while it was parked in their lot, a transport driver crashed into the back of it.”
A vehicle getting into an accident while at a service center is definitely frustrating, and Richard continues to share the damage to his Cybertruck, writing…
“Just look at this damage—tailgate crumpled, light bar shattered, bumper all messed up. It even got pushed into the car next to it! The lot was snowy, but still, be careful!”
Richard says Tesla provided him with a loaner until his truck is fixed, but the repair appears extensive, costing $7,000.
Richard continues to write…
“Tesla provided a loaner (appreciate that), drove my truck 15 miles to Eden Prairie for repairs, and now the estimate is over $7,000 for parts and labor. Over seven thousand on a truck with under 7,200 miles!”
Thankfully, Tesla will handle the insurance claim because the truck was damaged while under the company’s supervision.
However, Richard remains unhappy because, even after repairs, his relatively new truck now has an accident record that will reduce its value in the future.
Richard continues to write…
“Tesla says they’re handling the insurance claim because it happened on their watch, but what about the diminished value? My pristine Cybertruck now has an accident history forever. Who’s covering that, Tesla? Or the inconvenience of all this?”
Finally, Richard concludes his post, writing…
“I love my truck, but this is disappointing. Has anyone else had their Tesla damaged at the dealer? Vent over… for now.”
Below his post, Richard included several pictures of his damaged Cybertruck parked at a Tesla location.
As you can see, the damage is definitely not severe; however, the Cybertruck appears to have been pushed from its parking spot and crashed into another Model Y parked next to it.
This is definitely not ideal; however, looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners shared varied opinions.
Some Cybertruck owners defend Tesla, saying the EV maker is not at fault for the damage and that Richard shouldn’t expect diminished-value compensation.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Michael Myers, writes…
“So a truck driver hits your truck, and you're blaming Tesla?
If the driver is a Tesla employee, you might have a point, but I believe most new cars are delivered by third parties.
If you bought a new vehicle thinking it would increase in value, you're a complete idiot. Things happen. Let them fix it and get on with your life.”
This is definitely an interesting opinion; however, multiple other Cybertruck owners echo the same sentiment, saying Richard shouldn’t expect diminished-value compensation from Tesla.
Another Cybertruck owner, Tyler Mayo, writes…
“You’ll never get diminished value on a truck that loses significant value each day. Let them fix it nicely and move on.”
A third Cybertruck owner, Alain Lelievre, writes…
“That is what they call... things happen. They are fixing it, right? You got a loaner, and it won't cost you a penny. I think you got the best-case scenario.”
Overall, fellow Cybertruck owners seem to believe Tesla bears no additional responsibility because the accident happened at the company’s lot.
