A Tesla Cybertruck Owner Says He’s Getting Singled Out Simply For Using His Phone While The Truck Drives Itself – He Adds, “People Are Less Tolerant of Cybertruck Drivers”

A Cybertruck owner reports that he gets targeted simply for using his phone while the truck drives itself. He adds that even when he shows people that the truck is autonomous, they don’t calm down. He believes this is due to anti-Cybertruck sentiment.

Nicholas Somberg, a Cybertruck owner from Michigan, says he has been targeted for simply using his phone while the truck drives itself.

Nicholas notes that the truck’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) feature lets him feel comfortable focusing on his phone instead of the road during his commute.

However, other drivers, unaware that the Cybertruck is driving itself, become angry with him for not paying attention.

Nicholas tries to explain that the truck is autonomous and that he doesn’t need to focus on it, but this explanation doesn’t seem to calm them down.

Nicholas believes this behavior stems from widespread anti-Cybertruck sentiment across the country.

Nicholas's second challenge is that other drivers on the road are increasingly less tolerant of his minor driving errors when he is behind the wheel of a Cybertruck.

Nicholas mentions that while driving, he occasionally makes small errors, like thinking he should turn onto a street only to realize he needs to wait for the next turn.

He says that in other vehicles, a simple apology or a small wave is enough to calm the situation, but when he is driving his Cybertruck, people seem to lose their minds.

Nicholas believes he’s been targeted for driving a Cybertruck, and the unhappy road user shared his experience on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.

He writes…

“Has anybody experienced that when you're in the Cybertruck and make a very minor traffic misjudgment, like a slight miscalculation, in any other vehicle it would just require a little wave, like, oh, sorry, I meant to turn at this street instead of the last one, or something... but because you're in the Cybertruck, people lose their freaking minds.”

Or they go crazy because you're looking at your phone while in FSD. I'll point to the steering wheel and show like, hey, no hands, and they still get mad.”

Nicholas believes he’s receiving harsh criticism from other drivers solely because he drives a Cybertruck. Similarly, looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners agree they are also being targeted for their choice of vehicle.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, Philip Winicov, writes…

“People seem to be looking for any excuse to honk or make a scene.

I’ve noticed it more than once. In every other car I’ve owned, you can make a normal move in traffic, and nobody reacts.

In the Cybertruck, people honk and turn it into drama.

I think some folks just seize any chance to vent their frustration with the truck itself.”

Another Cybertruck owner, Ray Syd, writes…

“Definitely, if I’m driving our Tesla Model X, no one would care at all. In the Cybertruck, insults are coming.”

A fourth Cybertruck owner, Toni Deejay, writes…  ·

“Definitely, that’s why I have 5% tints on my Cybertruck, so I don’t have to interact with humans.”

A fifth Cybertruck owner, Erich Aschenbrenner, writes…

“Had a guy freak out at me after he walked in front of me in a parking lot as I was pulling into a space. He obviously wasn’t looking where he was going, and I stopped for him, but it didn’t matter.”

A sixth Cybertruck owner, Amit Bhavsar, writes…

“I don’t pay attention to other drivers. I’m too busy getting work done while my Cybertruck drives me.”

Overall, some Cybertruck owners seem convinced they are being singled out when they are simply trying to use their phone or get work done while the vehicle is driving itself.
