Gabe Thompson is a Cybertruck owner from Texas looking to upgrade from the dual-motor Cybertruck AWD to the tri-motor Cyberbeast. However, despite trying to give Tesla more money for what will essentially be his third Cybertruck, Gabe was surprised to find out the EV maker has blacklisted him from buying any of the company’s vehicles.
To add to Gabe’s troubles, Tesla allowed him to go through the entire order process and only canceled the Cybertruck delivery as he was on his way to pick up the truck.
Gabe shared his story on the Tesla Cybertruck group on Facebook.
Here is what he wrote…
“Well, Tesla is upholding their no-sale policy if you sell your Foundation Series Cybertruck. I was ready to take delivery of a Cyberbeast today, but they called me hours before I was scheduled to pick it up and told me they would not deliver it to me because I had sold my Foundation Series truck. I'm not mad, just disappointed; I guess they have the right to do that. I will be looking for a different brand of vehicle to buy. Do you have any suggestions?”
Below his post, Gabe provided a couple of screenshots of his Tesla app. The first picture shows a conversation Gabe had with a Tesla sales representative on December 16.
Here, after Gabe’s inquiry, Tesla confirmed his delivery date for December 18 with a message that reads…
“Delivery Appointment Confirmed
Your delivery appointment is confirmed for 4:00 PM, December 18, 2024, at 300
Lexington Dr, Plano, TX 75075 US. Review these instructions before attending your appointment.”
The second screenshot shows Gabe ordered a Cybertruck on December 11 and that the order was canceled on December 18.
This is certainly a surprising turn of events. At the height of Cybertruck sales early this year, Tesla was blacklisting individuals who bought the vehicle and who resold it without the company’s permission; however, now that Cybertruck sales have stalled, it’s surprising that Tesla is still turning back people trying to buy the truck.
What’s interesting here is that back in October, Gabe was able to buy a second (non-Foundation Series) Cybertruck despite selling his Foundation Series truck without Tesla’s permission.
At that time, Gabe bought a Cybertruck AWD without any issues. Not only that, Gabe made the news because he was able to take delivery of a $79,990 Cybertruck in less than 10 days after his order.
However, it appears that Tesla has swept the company’s records and added new individuals to the no-vehicle sale ban.
Looking at the comments, some Tesla fans recommended that Gabe buy a Tesla Model X if he isn’t able to buy the Cybertruck.
However, according to Gabe, the ban covers not only the Cybertruck but also any other Tesla vehicle and likely any other Tesla product, including the Powerwall and Tesla solar products.
Overall, it’s surprising to see Tesla still banning individuals from buying the company’s products when the EV maker is struggling to drum up demand.

Most manufacturers want to sell more of their product. Tesla has an overpriced product that is facing a lot of resistance and they are making it more difficult to buy?
Elon seems to be doing Ok for himself, he didn't accumulate that wealth by being foolish, I just don't see the logic in this "strategy".

I'm not surprised that Elon made the resell rule but I am surprised the shareholders went along with it. Could it be a move to try & slow 3rd-party manufacturers from making non-oem parts? Like you said, they should be wanting to sell as many as they can. I get a company like Ferrari making a handful of supercars & having this "rule" but seeing as you can rent (& now buy) used Teslas from Hertz rental car, it adds to the confusion. Hertz can resell them but this poor bastard can't? Weird indeed.

I guess cult members never really see what everyone else in the World sees. Who in their right mind would purchase a vehicle they can't sell, built by a manufacturer plagued with issues (some issues which take MONTHS to resolve), many insurance companies won't even insure, and you have to plan a 1/2 day to "refuel"?

I will never buy a tesla or it's products cause of this exact reason, if you want to buy a car or truck, you have the money you ban me from buying, why? it shouldn't matter, your selling vehicles to make money, why turn it down, makes absolutely no sense, and I don't like the fact that they are able to shut your vehicle down when ever they please to, and won't even give you your money back so not you just have an expensive paper weight. they should be banned selling vehicles see how they would like that. I will never ever by tesla products even if it was Givin to me free of charge with a solar or electrical charging station I will refuse it and I stick by my words, go head tesla offer me it all free, or should I say Elan Musk, offer it to me for free and be surprised.

I'm astounded! I can't believe in America, you can buy a vehicle from a dealer, and with no special negotiations or discounts involved, and after purchase of dealers vehicle, the dealer can force you to own the vehicle for any length of time they choose! What's worse, is that you are binded to keeping the vehicle until tye dealer says it's OK to sell, or you won't be able to buy another vehicle from the same dealer! There must be an agreement in the contract for the purchase of the vehicle with some kind of clause staring the policy! However, I still can't believe it, and that every person buying one of the tesla cybertrunks agrees to this clause! I know I will never buy one, and the rest of you shouldn't either! I'm spending my money to buy your product, and I will sell or keep or trade or anything else I want to do with it, and if a dealer has a problem with that, I will be buying from a different dealer and product! No wonder Tesla is having problems selling the electric junk!

No one is going to tell me that I can or can't buy or sell my vehicle. Not even Elon Musk. Musk needs to know that his policies and attidute will drive him and his companies into the ground. I would never buy or own a Tesla car or ugly truck! Over priced, ugly design and one of the worst policies of ownership I have ever seen in automobile history.

My guess is he did it…
Permalink
My guess is he did it because the cyber truck was such the rage initially that he didn't want people buying them then turning around and selling them at double the price due to the high demand. Why should a private citizen profit more off a vehicle than the mfg of the car. But I learned long ago...NEVER buy any car that is the 1st edition. The 1st few years is when they try to get the bugs out then the better models are mfg after. Just like when they redo any model car. Never buy it when it's 1st released. Unless you want a lot of unexpected repair bills. The cyber trucks were hyped up BIG time...but I personally think they are extremely unattractive...& so far...very unreliable. But definitely interesting to look at. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
