Doug DeMuro, host of the namesake YouTube channel, says that after a year and a half, a used Cybertruck will sell for around $35,000.
Doug is by far the biggest name in automotive YouTube and a seasoned veteran of the automotive industry, with experience at various dealerships and automakers.
If that wasn’t enough, Doug also owns one of the largest used-car selling websites, Cars & Bids, which focuses on modern vehicles.
And given all of his experience in the automotive market, he’s predicting that the Cybertruck will continue to depreciate massively.
Doug discussed the Cybertruck’s depreciation issue on his latest YouTube episode.
He began by noting that his Cars & Bids website recently sold a Cybertruck for only $61,000.
Doug mentions…
“We just had a Cybertruck sale for $61,000. Folks, Cybertrucks are knocking on $50ks.”
At the start of deliveries, Cybertrucks were selling for around $100,000 from Tesla and fetching more than $200,000 on the secondary market.
However, despite this significant drop in price, Doug still doesn’t believe the Cybertruck is a good value at $50,000.
Doug continues…
“I’m not saying it’s a good deal. I’m not saying you should buy a Cybertruck at this price.
I’m just presenting a market report. I’m simply reporting the truth; the Cybertruck is knocking on the door of the $50,000 range. They will be there soon.”
Doug makes the distinction that the Cybertruck in the $50,000 range is the standard All-Wheel-Drive model, whereas the higher-end performance Cybertruck still holds its value relatively well.
Doug continues…
“The Performance Cybertrucks cost more. They are still in the $80,000 range, but that won’t last long.”
Finally, Doug predicts that, following this trend, a used Cybertruck will be worth $35,000 after only a year and a half.
Doug continues…
“This is going to be a $35,000 truck in 18 months. I’m not exaggerating. This is going to be $35,000 in 18 months, you mark my words.
Call us on the podcast in June or July of 2027, and let’s see what Cybertrucks are going for.”
A $100,000 vehicle selling for $35,000 after only 3 to 4 years is definitely concerning, and Doug has his own theory for this massive depreciation.
Doug believes the Cybertruck is like the Hummer H2, which grabs a lot of attention and is loved by a few individuals, but the vehicle is not widely admired, and in the secondary market, it loses its value quickly.
Doug believes the Cybertruck will meet the Hummer H2’s fate. He continues…
“The Cybertruck is the Hummer H2 of the modern era. It’s very striking and sells to a certain person, and then it depreciates like crazy, and it loses its strikingness and its luster and its excitement.”
Doug concludes his point by emphasizing how quickly the Cybertruck has lost its appeal, saying…
“I mean, you see a Cybertruck now and feel a little sorry for the people driving them, right?
They were cool for a year. When they came out, there wasn’t a person in the world who didn’t text me like ‘I just saw some sort of angular truck, I don’t know what it was, but that is not the case anymore.”
Overall, Doug seems to believe the Cybertruck is a complete flop and that the vehicle’s value will continue to go down. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
