This week, the owner of a Tesla Model Y has asked for help. She wants to buy her husband a Cybertruck as a holiday season gift, but she's unsure if it’s the right choice or how to configure the truck. Here’s exactly what she posted about this quandary
I am in the process of ordering a Cybertruck for my husband for Christmas. Can anyone put in what they love most and what they have found a struggle owning a Cybertruck? I already have a Model Y for myself.
There are really two things going on here. First, the owner of the Model Y is on the fence about whether this is a truck that folks really struggle with owning, or if they love it. Second, she wants advice on how to configure the Cybertruck. Meaning which trim, packages, and accessories to include when she orders it or buys it from inventory.
Since we found this great post in a Facebook Cybertruck group, you will not be surprised by the many positive comments, encouraging member KW to go for it. Here is a selection of the positive comments she received:
AN - “Everything is GREAT!”
ATP - “Don’t postpone joy. Do it!”
TAC - “Love the features, home power share, turning radius, bold look.”
TS - “Love Mine. The bi-weekly updates are great. It’s the safest vehicle on the road. Fast as F. Drives itself.”
AL345 - “It’s the best vehicle I’ve experienced by a long shot.”
Many owners appear to be very jealous of the husband in this scenario. Here’s what some of them posted:
SN - “I think he's the wrong husband you are giving it to!”
TF - “Can you buy me one too?”
AN - “Will you marry me?”
EU - “Y’all adopting?”
BM - “Do you have a sister?”
In addition to the positive affirmations, many Tesla Cybertruck owners offered some very helpful suggestions about what to buy with the truck she is ordering. Here are some we found to be great ideas.
SC - “Get cyber beast with the lux package if you can afford it, come with the works.”
RW - “Get FSD…but let him pick out a wrap.”
DB - “Just make sure you buy the cyber beast.”
JB - “Get it wrapped, as soon as you can.”
Maybe the best advice we saw and agree with 110% was, “Have a dedicated wall charger installed.”
There were some negative comments and some that were simply trolls, like these:
JS - “Have a schedule that works around all the service visits. I’m on number 4 on Wednesday, and I’ve owned it for less than 3 months.”
LG - “The occasional middle finger in the window was bothering me in the beginning, now they just make me laugh.”
BV - “The complimentary tube of super glue in the glove compartment for repairing parts that fall off.”
RDM - “The ONLY thing I don't like...The cupholders.”
JP - “Aside from that and the middle fingers I get every other day, it's been phenomenal.”
JO - “Maybe include an umbrella, as there’s still no summons yet.”
DD - “Make him feel like a man, and get a Raptor or TRX.”
As you can see, for the most part, the response was positive. And with the glut of inventory, a Cybertruck may be a wise choice as a holiday gift. We do have one piece of advice that we have learned from covering Tesla now for two decades. That would be to buy as late in the year as possible. Now that we have already entered Q4, Tesla will hold off on its very best deals until the end of the quarter and the year-end approach. Assuming this year is similar to previous ones, Tesla is likely to offer some amazing deals late in the game as the holiday season reaches its peak. We would not be surprised to see $20K discounts on the Tesla Cybertruck in mid-December.
The other advice we’d offer is to think ahead to charging logistics. Will the Cybertruck fit inside the garage with the Model Y? If not, an additional charger location outside may be necessary. This is a considerable expense, and can be made even more costly if the home’s electrical panel is maxed out.
Finally, we’d be cautious and try to ensure that hubby does not drive past his local Tesla retail location one day after the new Cybertruck has been ordered and not yet delivered. Having two Cybertrucks instead of one would really make for a bummer of a holiday season, and could be a huge financial hit, since used Cybertrucks depreciate so much.
One decision that KW won’t have to make is color, since all Cybertrucks are the color of a stainless steel refrigerator. However, as many owners have pointed out, a wrap is the solution to that small detail.
Now that you’ve read over the suggestions offered to KW, what would you add to this? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below, ensuring KW has every angle covered.
