You can see the Rivian R2's configurator by clicking here. The Rivian R2, as a reminder, is a five-seat large crossover SUV with all-electric power. The base Standard model is rear-wheel drive with a single electric motor, and the proclaimed range is 345 miles for a vehicle with 350 horsepower.
The Premium gets all-wheel drive and 450 horsepower and a 330-mile range, while the Performance trim also 330 miles of range and an eye-popping 656 horsepower. That one also has all-wheel drive.
The Standard trim starts at $48,490, while the Premium comes in at $53,990 and the Performance trim costs $57,990 to start.
If you're interested in buying a Rivian R2, you can now go online and option it out how like to get an idea of what it will look like -- and what it would cost you equipped the way you like. You can, of course, also reach out to a store near you -- or place a $100 deposit.
What Torque News Found Out About A Visit To The Rivian Block Party
A Facebook user, Lawrence Stevens, went to the Rivian Block Party in Palo Alto, California, and had a quick take on the new R2.
This is how Lawrence described it in the Rivian R2 Enthusiasts group on Facebook:
"What can I add that hasn't already been said about the Rivian R? Well, aside from just overall a fantastic vehicle, the rear seat legroom is a big deal. It is the biggest surprise for me. I am 6 foot, and these are pics of my sitting behind my driving position front seat. This car is going to be a fantastic size for 2 kid families and road trips. There's plenty of space in the back seat area for 2 kids + snacks + devices + stuffies etc."
Stevens says a Rivian employee told him the R2 he saw was a "final stage pre-customer" vehicle.
Rear-seat legroom and overall cargo room are important to many buyers, especially those with families. The ability to carry a lot of stuff and have plenty of room for kids and adults is huge, pardon the pun. While this is just one customer's take -- other folks might feel differently, and the best thing for discerning shoppers to do is to compare specs from car to car -- it bodes well for Rivian that at least one customer who got an early preview was impressed by the rear-seat and cargo space.
Even if Rivian isn't touting the amount of space in its marketing or advertising -- and your author genuinely doesn't know, he's not seen any of either -- at least one customer is spending time on social media praising that aspect of the vehicle. That word-of-mouth advertising sometimes does better than paid media or positive reviews by the likes of automotive journalists.

Rivian R2 On Sale Date
The higher trims of the Rivian R2 go on sale this spring, meaning they should be hitting dealer lots at any time. The base model comes to market later, in 2027.
So, with the configurator live and at least one customer speaking praise of the SUV's interior room, if you find yourself swayed, you can build and price yours now.
You can do that even if you don't like the Rivian -- or simply can't afford one or don't want/need a new car -- just to waste time at work.
