The 2019 Ram 1500 is Longer, Lighter and Loaded with Technology

The Detroit Auto Show is all about the pickups this year. Ram unveiled its 2019 Ram that includes more technology, more storage and a mild hybrid to create more torque. Chevrolet unveiled its 2019 Silverado on Saturday and Ford rolled out its 2019 Ranger yesterday!

Ram is the money maker keeping Fiat Chrysler afloat and the company made it clear that it understands that with the latest redesign of the popular 2019 Ram 1500. The 2019 Ram 1500 adds the technologies that are usually found on smaller vehicles like adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring as well as more storage and convenience for people who use it as a work truck.

The global head of Ram, Mike Manley, unveiled the new Ram at the North American International Auto Show, in Detroit. “The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 delivers a no-compromise approach to the full-size truck segment with strength, durability, technology and efficiency,” said Manley. “The Ram 1500 offers truck buyers leading-edge innovation with 225 pounds of weight reduction, 12,750 pounds of towing capability, a stunning Uconnect 12-inch touchscreen display and active systems that improve fuel efficiency and assist drivers. The Ram 1500 stands out as the benchmark in a very competitive segment.”

2019 Ram 1500 includes more Gadgets and Storage

The 12-inch touchscreen display is sure to be a crowd pleaser. It should make the screen easier to use. The 2019 Ram 1500 will be about 4 inches longer but 225 pounds lighter than the 2018 Ram 1500. Chrysler used a combination of high-strength steel with some aluminum components to lighten the future Ram’s over-all weight.

Ram will now use aluminum for the tailgate and the lighter weight will allow it to add some interesting features. The 2019 ram 1500s will come with a built-in lift assist. A new latch-and-lock mechanism is now electronic, which will allow owners to control the tailgate with the key fob or interior switch. Being able to open the tailgate remotely, while walking toward the truck will be a huge convenience.

The cab of the 2019 Ram 1500 will be four inches longer which creates space for more innovative storage inside the truck. Ram claims that it has more storage capacity than all of its competitors. The center console can be reconfigured to allow more room for storage. In the back seat area, the seats can recline to eight degrees. The trucks also have a true flat-load floor with integrated RamBins with tie-down rings and expandable under seat storage.

Mild Hybrid Boosts Performance

The 2019 Ram 1500 will be available in 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 that kicks out 305 horsepower or the legendary HEMI 5.7-liter V-8. The HEMI roars with 395 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque.

According to Ram, the mild hybrid system replaces the old alternator. “The eTorque mild hybrid system replaces the traditional alternator on the engine with a belt-driven motor generator unit that performs several functions. The motor generator unit works with a 48-volt battery pack to enable quick and seamless start/stop function, short-duration torque addition to the engine crankshaft in certain driving situations and brake energy regeneration, which improves responsiveness and efficiency.” According to Ram, “eTorque adds up to 90 lb.-ft. of torque to the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and up to 130 lb.-ft. to the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8.”

The 2019 Ram 1500 also pays more attention to off-roading enthusiasts. A 4X4 Off-Road package is now available on nearly every trim level.

The 2019 Ram 1500 features a new grille and replaces the Ram’s head logo with a more masculine looking Ram. The crosshairs grille is replaced with a more refined metallic grille.

The new 2019 will be available in 12 colors and will be built at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, in Michigan.
