Tesla Receives Permit to Start Construction of Giga Mexico Plant: Will Build the $25,000 Compact Car

Today, Tesla received the permit to start construction of its Giga Mexico plant. Construction could start in the next few weeks, but Tesla will ultimately determine this. This plant will build the $25,000 compact car.

Tesla Giga Mexico Construction Permit

There were those who thought Giga Mexico was going to be cancelled and said that Tesla would cancel the project. Well, this appears to not be the case as YouTube channel, Milenio, with 6.21 million subscribers, announced that Tesla received the construction permit to build Giga Mexico.

Here is the official word from the video (translated, so forgive any errors in translation, I typed the English translation while the video was playing)

Semarnat notified Tesla about the permits to be able to establish its gigafactory, let's go directly to Luis Garcia, who is the information coordinator for Telediario Monterrey, who has the information. Luis, how are you? Very good afternoon, how are you, Enrique?

Very good afternoon, I greet you, because in fact, I still don't know. There is a date for the installation of the first foundation stone of the Tesla Gigafactory in the municipality of Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, however what is already known is the certainty that this process is advancing.

I can tell you how well I anticipated it a few years ago. Moments that Semarnat has formally notified the legal representative of Tesla Manufacturing named Eugenio Grio de la Torre about the necessary permits to be able to obtain this authorization from the Federal Government specifically from Sermarnat to be able to carry out the construction of this Gigafactory yesterday, Enrique the Ministry of the Environment notified Tesla of the corresponding federal land use permits to build this factory.

Specifically, Enrique is the Department of Natural Resources and Wildlife of the Management Subdelegation for Environmental Protection and Resources. Naturals of the Semar Nat, it is important to point out Enrique that they have already been making progress in obtaining both state and federal permits, for example, last September, the government of Nuevo León, headed by Samuel Garcia, approved the permits for Tesla of environmental impact manifestation for the construction of this Gigafactory in the municipality of Santa.

Months later or the following month, Enrique specifically in October, Governor Samuel Garcia himself said that they were already receiving permits from the Federal Government, it must be remembered that there are several authorizations that have to be made but Governer Samuel Garcia in October expressed his intention or expressed the progress that there was around this issue, it is important to note that just a few days ago on December 7, the Secretary of Economy, Ivan Rivas when he went to Congres from the State A to appear with stated that Tesla had already purchased the land in the municipality of Santa Catarina and that he was only waiting for the federal authorizations, which are what are missing to be able to start, which is why Enrique is that up to this moment there is no date estimated for laying the first stone, although the state assures that it will be as soon as possible, perhaps in the next few weeks.

With what happened yesterday with this notification, Enrique is practically opening the way for these permits to be obtained and such perhaps in the next few days it will be possible to announce when this famous symbolic first stone could be installed for the Tesla Gigafactory. They are talking about, will be the largest that the company has worldwide, so things are going. Enrique, then this process is moving forward, obviously we have been recording step by step of Tesla in Nuevo León, the latest information is this that you mention and that I am telling you, they have already formally notified the legal representation of the company what it needs to be able to obtain those permits and with this, Enrique, we are practically speaking, it could be a matter of days to know when the formal construction of this plant will begin.

What must we say and with this we close the information Enrique must say that the infrastructure works of the places or lands surrounding where the plant will be plant, those have already started, that corresponds to the State government, they have already started, Enrique, the only thing left to know is when they will have these permits to formally start the construction of the factory.

Luis, are the last permits that Tesla needed to be able to build this factory, in fact, they are the federal permits. That the Semarnat has to issue the change. What they are requesting, Enrique, is a chance in land use because the one he has right now is for forestry use and the one they need is forestry, modality A. That is practically what is needed for that small change. Obviously takes care of permits and takes care of checking with studies what is going to be done when they already obtain it is Enrique that now they will be able to proceed with construction of the plant.

Very well, Luis, thanks for the information and of course I will return to you if so you determine it. Very good afternoon.

Even though the English translation is not perfect, there appears to be a variety of talks involved in getting everything setup for Tesla to be able to begin construction.

It appears that Tesla has the permit needed to begin construction, all that needs to happen is for Tesla to prioritize it.

What will Tesla Build at Giga Mexico?

Tesla will build the compact car or the $25,000 car, at Giga Mexico. If Tesla is able to start construction in a few weeks, this will be a positive signal for Tesla, which has generally faced delays when building other Gigafactories like Giga Berlin.

I think the construction of Giga Mexico will take about a year and then there will be expansions built on it, just like all the other Gigafactories.

I'm looking forward to seeing the drone flyovers of this factory while it is under construction and seeing what little nuggets of information we can get from them.

This is about all I've been able to uncover for the permits for Giga Mexico, but be sure to check back for further news on this development.
