Doug Mac, a Cybertruck owner from Michigan, says he was surprised by Tesla's response after he reached out to the EV maker about a defect in his Cybertruck windshield.
Doug’s Cybertruck has a small flaw on the bottom left corner of the windshield where the black frit has become transparent and has an uneven edge.
Because the defect is small and located at the lower part of the windshield, just below the wiper blade mount, it doesn’t impair Doug’s visibility.
However, Doug believes the blemish is a manufacturing defect and has contacted Tesla to request a full windshield replacement under warranty.
So far, Doug was not too upset by the small defect; however, he says he was taken aback by Tesla’s reply.
In response to his warranty repair request, a Tesla service technician sent Doug a lengthy warning about the dangers of replacing a Cybertruck windshield.
Tesla advised Doug against replacing the windshield over a minor cosmetic flaw, likening the repair process to invasive surgery.
The Tesla technician clarified that, particularly with the Cybertruck—which features the largest windshield in the automotive industry—replacing the windshield effectively entails having to saw out the old windshield.
Tesla’s warning was that Doug might cause more issues by getting his windshield replaced rather than the small cosmetic defect.
Some might agree with Tesla’s concerns; however, Doug expressed his disappointment with this response, calling it truly unexpected.
The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners group on Facebook.
Doug asks…
“What would you do?”
Below his post, Doug included several pictures showing the defect on his Cybertruck windshield. As mentioned above, the blemish is a small, transparent, uneven surface on the lower left corner of the windshield.
In addition to the defect, Doug also shared a screenshot from his Tesla app showing the response he received from Tesla after requesting a windshield replacement under warranty.
The Tesla message reads:
“While it is rare for glass replacement to be covered under warranty, it looks possible from your photo — we'll just need to see it onsite to make the determination.
However, you may want to take some time to think about whether you'd really want this repaired for a small cosmetic blemish, even if it's under warranty.
A windshield replacement, especially in a Cybertruck, is quite an invasive surgery—many components need to be dismantled, and the old windshield essentially has to be sawn out of the frame.
While our technicians are very skilled, there are many inherent risks in any repair—not to mention your own inconvenience!
Just something for you to consider, if this is something you're comfortable living with.”
Looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners were divided about Tesla’s reply. Some Cybertruck owners said Tesla’s reply is bizarre, whereas others defended the EV maker and advised Doug to simply get over the small blemish.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Worrell Thomas, referring to Tesla’s reply, writes…
“That’s a crazy response.”
Doug agrees, saying…
“It was very unexpected.”
However, many other Cybertruck owners agreed with Tesla and said the blemish is not a big deal and to forget about it.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Robert Whitlock, writes…
“Leave it be”
Another Cybertruck owner, Steve Resis, writes…
“Let it go.”
A third Cybertruck owner, Jimmy Johnson, writes…
I would correct it with a black permanent marker if nothing else is wrong and not worry about it anymore. Every experience with any auto repair is usually very disappointing. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Overall, Cybertruck owners seem divided on what Doug should do. However, please let me know what you think in the comments. Share your ideas by clicking the red “Add new comment” button below. Also, be sure to visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.

Saw the windshield out of the frame?
Who came up with this design? Weren't we told that Tesla hires bright engineers? So, what happened here, right? Oh, and that windshield runs about two grand. Just part of the cybertoy ownership experience.

The Tesla respondant is just being overly dramatic about the typical process likely to dissuade the owner from pursuing further. Windshields on most all vehicles are glued in and require cutting/sawing to remove as part of replacement.

1) customer paid for an unblemished truck, but Tesla wants him to accept it. OMG. If he resells it or trades it in Tesla/new owner will use that blemish to lower the value. The guy paid for new unblemished truck. Any subsequent post-fix issues are also on Tesla. Or give him a replacement that fits what Tesla promised a great truck. Heck Tesla has tons of excess inventory.
2) Other cyber truck owners coming to defense of Tesla? Why? Crazy Tesla fanatics defending Musk and Tesla after Tesla stole $12k+ for non-self driving FSD while Musk goes to court to fight for his $50 Billion bonus? More likely the 5 stages of grief playing out after Tesla owners are struggling with their very public displays of poor decisions making in falling for the HW3 FSD, bullet proof windows sales pitch. LOL

Fiddling with a small visual blemish in an area not easily seen from 10 feet or so away is an invitation to disastrous results. Most people will not notice the blemish. Leave it be.

Tesla should disclose the facts related to a windshield replacement at point of sale. You should not find out that the windshield must be sawed out to replace, resulting in possible further damage and extremely high cost, outside of anything considered normal.

Have Tesla touch-up the blemish. I dread thinking about the time you will be without the vehicle while the windshield is replaced.
