Dimitris Malafouris, a Tesla Model Y owner from Canada, says that once he started driving Tesla vehicles, it became difficult to switch to another brand.
Dimitris joined the Tesla family in 2023 with his first Tesla Model 3.
After the Model 3, he tried to upgrade, so he test-drove a BMW i4 and a Hyundai IONIQ 5; however, he ended up buying a Tesla Model Y in early January of this year.
Now, after a year of ownership, Dimitris says he couldn’t be happier with his Model Y and can’t imagine driving any vehicle other than a Tesla.
Dimitris believes the biggest differentiator for Tesla compared to other vehicles is its technology.
He feels other vehicles are archaic compared to his Tesla Model Y.
The happy Tesla customer shared his thoughts on the Tesla Model Y Juniper Owners Club on Facebook.
He writes…
“Once you get a Tesla, it’s hard to go back
As my title says, once you get a Tesla, it’s hard to go back. I bought my Tesla Model 3 in 2023 and a Model Y the same year.
Last year, when Tesla announced the Juniper Model Y, I placed an order. While waiting, I also looked at other electric vehicles. I test-drove the BMW i4 and the Hyundai IONIQ 5.
This is not to bash those cars. They are good vehicles. The BMW has a very nice finish, but in my opinion, it does not justify the price. They are good-looking cars, but what Tesla offers in terms of technology really sets it apart.
With Tesla, the way you open the car, how everything is connected to your phone, and how driver profiles sync automatically make a big difference.
You do not rely on Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. You can start heating or air conditioning from home, and within a minute, the car is fully warmed up.
And then there is FSD. I did not really use FSD when I had hardware 3, but since version 14, I have been using it constantly.
A couple of days ago, I took a six-hour road trip from home to Toronto and barely touched the controls. For me, FSD has been amazing. It feels like having my own personal taxi, and it makes long road trips much less tiring.
Another big advantage is the constant software updates. The car keeps getting better over time and feels brand new even after years of ownership.
Of course, Tesla is not perfect. There are areas where it could improve, such as battery technology compared with some competitors'. Build quality can also be a concern for some people, but in my experience, it has improved a lot compared with older models. It is not perfect, but it is much better than it used to be.
Overall, I do not regret moving forward with my Juniper Model Y order at all. Once you get used to the Tesla ecosystem, it’s very hard to imagine going back to another brand.”
Dimitris seems extremely happy with his Tesla Model Y, and looking at the comments, fellow Model Y owners agree they won’t drive any vehicle other than a Tesla.
A fellow Tesla Model Y owner, Girish P Thawrani, writes…
“Totally agree with you. The best car I have ever bought to date. Amazing tech, and the updates are so much fun. Difficult to go back to petrol cars.”
Another Tesla Model Y owner, Michael A. Curcio, writes…
“Once you get a Tesla, you buy a second one!”
A third Tesla Model Y owner, David Jordan, writes…
“I agree. I bought a 2024 refreshed Model 3 Performance last year and love it so much that I bought a new 2026 Model Y Juniper two months ago. I could never go back to a basically antique car again!”
A fourth Tesla Model Y owner, Nikki Acevedo, says she even prefers the Model Y to the much more expensive Porsche Cayenne.
Nikki writes…
“I got my husband the Juniper Model Y, and I drive it more than I do my Porsche Cayenne. It's seriously an amazing car.”
A fifth Tesla Model Y owner, Regi Cook, writes…
“I just picked up my Juniper Performance Model Y last week. I had a 2023 Performance Model Y, and you are 100% correct. Once you have a Tesla, you will never drive anything else.”
Overall, many Tesla owners appear reluctant to choose any other vehicle after owning a Tesla. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.

I considered switching to a Cadillac, but I have to stay with a Tesla Model Y because it's by far the best car there is. Nothing compares.

It's just not true, there are tons of Tesla owners who have ditched their Teslas, both because of politics but also because of quality issues. I have owned 2 Teslas. The fit and finish were terrible on them. Their interiors are not even as good as the higher end Corolla. I would never go back to a gas car. Electric cars are so much better to drive with their quiet instant acceleration and 1 pedal driving, but my i4 and Cadillac optiq are just better built cars with much nicer interiors. And the all Google software in the Cadillac is way more useful then Tesla's, especially voice control, reading of text messages, controlling my Google home light switches and next thermostat from the car, etc. I'm looking forward to replacing the i4 next year with an ix3 or GLC300 electric.

Recently traded in our 7 year old Model 3 to Tesla (for what I consider a fairly close to reasonable amount) for a new Model Y which is amazingly quiet, planted and responsive for an SUV, and it has a killer sound system. Lots of included bells and whistles, most of which are useful. Vehicle settings are endlessly customizable. FSD is now pretty much there. The only reason I occasionally drive without FSD anymore is so I do not lose my driving skills. Anyone who thinks the software is buggy needs to drive it for a week and then reevaluate their conclusion.

I traded in a seven-year-old Model 3 for what I considered a reasonably fair price and picked up a new model Y a few months ago. It is an extremely quiet, responsive, and comfortable SUV. The software is not buggy and is extensively customizable with many bells and whistles if desired. Full self driving is now good enough so that I only drive without it when I want to refresh my driving skills. According to actual statistics it is one of the safest cars on the road. But you don’t have to believe me. Try driving one for a week.

Easily went from owning a Model 3 and Tundra to a Ford F-150 Lightning. It was by far the best move. Ford nailed this vehicle. And made the EV ownership experience better than the quirkiness of the Tesla experience. Prime example was using the app as a key. Tesla was often hit or miss if it would work. Flawless with the Ford. It still gets the original 320 miles range after 3-1/2 years of ownership and 40k miles on the odometer. And the range estimator is better than Tesla's.

I bought a Tesla model y six months ago. I don't see how I could ever go back to a gas car or even another ev. The software and hardware work so well together and the FSD makes traveling so easy. My son bought a model 3 9 months ago and he says the same thing. Driving anything else seems so out of date.

I've been a Tesla owner since 2013, fist a MS P85...55,000 miles....2017 moved to. MX 75D....60,000 miles (with FSD), then to a 2020 MY Long Range ...58,000 miles and FSD too. In Sept got the MY Juniper ang took my FSD with me. I started crosscountry trips in in 2015 from Seattle to Ohio that year with another xcountry drive to New York in the next year. So I've had 9 xcountry trips in some iteration of a Tesla. It was cutting teeth in 2017 iteration of FSD....and each year only incrementally better. My 2025 xcountry trip in first Gen MY still had phantom breaks and abrupt maneuvers (HW3).....but the Juniper was a leap into the future so far with v14. Long trips were always very easy with the super charger network.
Yes, once you drive one you'll suffer some issues, but OTAs and charging will overcome most everything. As proof of my satisfaction, we also have a Volvo C40 recharge, much better build and reliability but the tech and charging are woefully inferior.

I bought a used 2015 model S and it is an amazing vehicle. The technology is years ahead. 10 years ago Tesla had what everybody else has now. Two years of ownership and insurance is the largest expense. If this one ever wears out I will definitely replace it with another Tesla, but this one seems to be holding up well.

Excellent Tesla advertising but at the end of the day it's a use case for individual owners. I brought 6 Tesla in one go and regretted that decision for various reasons, all I can say is the next batch will not be Tesla.
Tesla sales don't fall for no reasons if all owners loves so much that cannot go back.

We bought our first Tesla, the 2022, model 3 for my wife. A year later I bought another model 3.
I tend to describe owning the Tesla EV’s as “bulletproof” only replacing tires or air filters.
On December 30 2025, we replaced my model 3 with the Premium Model Y. And after just a couple of days absolutely love it.
There was about a three week span where I had to have my model 3 repaired due to being hit by another driver.
During this time I was provided a loaner. It was a gas vehicle. For those three weeks it felt like I had gone from a rocket ship to a horse and buggy. Slow, noisy, sluggish.
No I cannot imagine not owning Tesla’s from here on out.

I leastd an updated model three AWD that still had FSD 13. I love the car, my wife was more ambivalent about it until she had a chance to drive it and insisted that I trade in a 2016 Lexus and lease her another Tesla, which, of course I did. With the upgraded FSD 14 the car is even better. It’s a little slow in parking lots and sometimes doesn’t take the most optimal exit from a parking lot, but beside that 14 is truly amazing and does make other cars seem like they’re really behind the times it makes driving a lot more relaxing, and while I feel that I still do need to monitor it it handles 99% of all situations correctly. I was particularly impressed with the fact that it slowed down during snowy weather to a speed that was more appropriate and felt safer. It even noticed a police car who was stopping somebody behind me. It slowed down and pulled over, but the police were after the person who was behind me and not me. Using FSD is like the paddle shifters on other cars, they’re there, you might use them every now and then when you feel frisky, but for the most part, I just let the car drive and use the time to listen to interesting podcasts or make phone calls. The dual motor all wheel drive has almost 400 hp, more than enough for any normal situation short of drag racing or track use.
