Tesla Cybertruck Owners Complain Their Trucks Keep Losing Charge While Simply Sitting in a Parking Lot – One Owner Says “I’m On a Trip & The Truck Has Lost 30 Miles In 48 Hours”

Cybertruck owners are sharing their frustration about how much battery their vehicles consume while simply sitting, turned off. One owner says he is away on a two-week trip, and his truck has already lost 30 miles of range in 48 hours.

Paul, a Cybertruck owner from Michigan, says his truck is losing charge at an alarming rate while parked in a lot while he’s away on a trip.

Paul says no one is driving the truck; however, within 48 hours of being parked, his Cybertruck has already lost 30 miles of range.

Paul says he will be back from his trip in two weeks, and given this level of power loss, he is concerned he’ll return to a dead battery.

The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

He writes…

“I am away on a trip and parked my truck in a parking lot. I didn't think I'd lose so many miles per day, but after 48 hours, I'm down 30 miles.

I'll be gone for a total of two weeks. I will not have a charge if this continues. How can I enable power save mode?

I turned sentry mode off prior to leaving.”

This is definitely concerning, and Paul has correctly identified that the solution is to activate “Low Power Mode.”

Tesla introduced Low Power Mode back in August, and the EV maker explains the feature as follows…

“Low Power Mode

To enable Low Power Mode, touch Controls > Charging > Low Power Mode.

You can also set the percentage between 10% and 20% at which Low Power Mode automatically enables. The default is 20%.

When Low Power Mode is enabled, your vehicle conserves energy by disabling certain features when the remaining range falls below the selected percentage.

The following features will be disabled and are unavailable to enable when your vehicle is in Low Power Mode:

  • Sentry Mode
  • Keep Accessory Power On
  • Actually Smart Summon (ASS) Standby Mode
  • Keep Climate On and Camp
  • Cabin Overheat Protection
  • Preconditioning”

By disabling these features, a Tesla vehicle, including the Cybertruck, is expected to conserve a lot of battery power.

That said, some Tesla owners still report their trucks lose significant range even with Low Power Mode enabled.

A fellow Cybertruck owner from Arizona writes

Phantom Power Draw in Low Power Mode

Drove to the airport for holiday travel, parked at 54%, now at 38% 3 days later. Turned off Sentry on day 1. Went into low power mode on day 2. Power dropped 41% to 38% while in low power mode.

I have had airport trips where the needle barely budges and trips where the phantom drain is worse. It does get cold; I’m parked at the Las Vegas airport, where overnight it gets down to perhaps as low as 40°. But I don’t think that’s the culprit.”

Here, the Cybertruck owner is unhappy that he’s losing battery percentage even in Low Power Mode.

However, Tesla clarifies that even in Low Power Mode, the vehicle doesn’t shut down completely and will still lose charge while parked.

Tesla writes…

“Note

When in Low Power Mode, your vehicle continues to use energy for standby functions, screen activity, and interactions with the mobile app. In cold weather, available energy may drop more quickly.”
