Sophia Keys, a Cybertruck owner from New Mexico, says she chose the Cybertruck because she believes it is the safest vehicle for her 8-month-old child.
However, she claims she has been singled out on the road solely because she drives a Cybertruck, which she believes endangers her and her daughter’s safety.
Sophia reports that a diesel truck driver recently rolled coal on her while she was heading to work.
At the time, she didn’t realize what was happening and thought the thick black exhaust from the truck in front of her wasn't aimed at her.
However, after an employee explained what rolling coal is, she realized the diesel truck driver was intentionally emitting exhaust to reduce her visibility and intimidate her on the road.
This is definitely not ideal, and Sophia thinks she was targeted because she was driving an electric vehicle.
In addition, she mentions experiencing multiple road-rage incidents where drivers cross three lanes just to brake-check her.
She says there was no apparent reason for their behavior other than the fact that she was driving a Cybertruck.
All this is frustrating, and the Cybertruck owner shared her story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
She writes…
“My employee asked me if someone had rolled coal on us yet. I didn’t even know what it meant.
Apparently, yes. Right before heading to work yesterday, I didn’t know it was a thing until he mentioned it.
He said diesel owners who hate Tesla or electric cars often do this.
We also had a road-rage incident, or maybe someone was being a bully, going across three lanes in front of us repeatedly, trying to force us to brake suddenly.
These rude people don’t realize we have an 8-month-old with us.
Moms are just trying to protect their babies by buying the best protective vehicle, and this is what we have to go through.”
Finally, Sophia concludes her post by asking if other Cybertruck owners have faced similar issues.
She writes…
“Is this normal behavior around you for having a Cybertruck?”
Looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners shared that they, too, have faced similar incidents on the road.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Ciprian Micula, writes…
“I had a U-Haul truck deliberately run me off the highway today. (Merged into my lane) Had a 6-week-old and my 2-year-old with me.”
A second Cybertruck owner, George Tanguay, writes…
“Had a couple of people try that on me, but with our Cybertruck, a gentle tap of the accelerator left them breathing their own exhaust.
I’m sure they had no idea the Cybertruck could accelerate that quickly.”
A third Cybertruck owner, Tom Kliemann, says he has been roll-coaled multiple times. However, given all he has to go through for driving a Cybertruck, that is not particularly concerning to him.
Tom writes…
“Of all the terrible things people do to Tesla owners, rolling coal is by far my favorite.
It's happened to me many times, and it's honestly pretty funny. After you've been harassed, run off the road, and threatened, being roll coal is a pretty awesome alternative.”
Finally, Sophia notes that the problem with her Cybertruck might stem from the financial stability of the residents in her area.
Sophia writes…
“Maybe location is a contributing factor. I'm in one of the five poorest states (New Mexico).
I feel like we're the first to have a Cybertruck in our city. I don't see but a few in Albuquerque.”
