Jason Conforti, a Cybertruck owner from Rhode Island, shares how his truck is playing a crucial role in the manhunt for the Brown University shooter.

Jason says he lives near the University, and after the shooting, he contacted the FBI, noting that his truck was parked in the area with Sentry Mode turned on.

The FBI later contacted him and seized the thumb drive containing the Sentry camera footage as evidence.

It’s uncertain whether the FBI has recovered anything useful from the Cybertruck’s Sentry camera, but following Jason’s actions, authorities officially issued a call to all Tesla owners in the area to submit footage from their vehicles.

Jason is happy to play his part in apprehending the individual behind this act, and he shared his story on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners group on Facebook.

He writes…

“I wanted to share this with the group. I work on the East Side of Providence, right in the area of the recent shooting at Brown University that you’ve probably seen in the news.

Law enforcement and the FBI have been searching extensively for usable video footage of the suspect, but have come up short.

Yesterday, I contacted the FBI to let them know that I park my Cybertruck on the street at work every day and always have Sentry Mode enabled.

Within about 10 minutes, they contacted me and asked if they could come by to collect the USB footage for review.

Later that same day, they made a public announcement on the news, asking anyone with Teslas parked on the street to contact them so they could obtain Sentry Mode footage.”

Finally, Jason concludes his post writing…

“A small win for Cybertruck owners — and a much bigger win if it helps lead to this bad person’s arrest.”

This is certainly an unusual use case for a Cybertruck. However, looking at the comments, other Cybertruck owners expressed enthusiasm about the possibility that their vehicles could help solve crimes.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, Rob Thesman, writes…

“Awesome stuff. It'd be great if this helps the authorities solve who is behind the attack.”

Another Cybertruck owner takes things one step further, declaring that Tesla vehicles are not just amazing but also crucial in fighting crime.

He writes…

“Teslas. Not just great cars but crime solvers.”

A third Cybertruck owner declares Tesla owners as heroes, writing…

“We are all heroes.”

A fourth Cybertruck owner, Chen, praises Jason for his role in apprehending the culprit, writing…

“Thank you for your help.”

Overall, a lot of Cybertruck owners appear satisfied with their vehicle's role in solving this crime.

However, one Cybertruck owner, Eric Maluk, has a different perspective. He argues that the authorities should have known that Tesla vehicles record video even before Jason brought this issue to their attention.

Eric believes that the fact they didn’t know suggests the authorities conducting the investigation are incompetent.

Eric writes…

“More proof it's a clown show. Seriously, they didn't know this until you contacted them.”

Eric seems to think that the FBI and local police investigating the crime should have a better understanding of Tesla vehicles' capabilities.

However, this also brings significant privacy concerns. Heavy government use of Tesla vehicles for surveillance could lead to public distrust.
