Derick, a Cybertruck owner from Missouri, says he is extremely happy with the latest full self-driving update.
Derick explains that recently, he went on a road trip across multiple states with his family, during which he let his 19-year-old drive the Cybertruck.
However, the twist is that, although his son was behind the wheel, he wasn’t actually driving; rather, Tesla’s latest FSD v14.2 software was making the decisions.
Derick appears more comfortable with this setup and shared an incident on the road to demonstrate how good FSD is.
He says that while his son was driving, a fire truck with its lights on appeared on the other side. He was about to tell his son to pull over to the right to let the fire truck pass, but before he could say anything, the vehicle automatically performed this action.
Derick is very pleased with this feature and notes that after the latest software update, 98% of his driving was handled by the FSD software.
The happy Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.
He writes…
“Thanksgiving FSD travel success. What's your FSD usage percentage so far?
My 19-year-old kiddo drove the truck. Five of us rode comfortably, listening to the amazing sound system.
Our luggage stayed dry in the back, and despite driving through rural Arkansas, I experienced zero range anxiety.
At one point, we saw a fire truck with lights in the other lane near Harrison, Arkansas. Before I could tell my son to pull the car to the right and stop, it did so on its own.”
So far, Derick seems happy with his Cybertruck and the full self-driving software. He also notes that his son only needed to take over from the truck once at a Tesla supercharger.
Even in that case, he explained that it was due to the supercharger's unusual layout, where vehicles have to pull in rather than back in to charge.
Derick continues to write:
“The truck didn't park correctly at a congested supercharger in Conway, Arkansas, where it needed to pull in forward instead of backward because of an unusual charger setup, but other than that, it was absolutely fantastic.
Today, we’re driving another two hours from Springfield, Missouri, to the Mizzou game in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
I love being able to relax and not worry about driving or (worse) a teen driver.”
Finally, Derick concludes his post by saying he was so impressed with FSD v14.2 that he plans to buy more Tesla shares.
He writes:
“I’m buying more Tesla stock on Monday. Anybody beat out my FSD usage percentages?”
Below his post, Derick included a picture of his Cybertruck’s center screen showing the FSD stats page.
The statistics show that 98% of the miles driven—484 out of 493—were handled by the FSD software.
98% is a significant portion for FSD to handle independently. However, looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners shared that FSD manages even more of their driving tasks.
Chris, a Cybertruck owner from Florida, shared that FSD has managed 99% of his driving.
Chris says the only reason his percentage isn’t at 100% is that he needs to drive a little to activate FSD.
He explains:
“Many times, I have to drive a few yards before FSD is available.”
This is impressive, but another owner, Joshua from North Carolina, reported that since downloading FSD v14.2, all of his miles have been driven autonomously.
Joshua shares that FSD has autonomously driven him for 1,490 miles, all without any human input.
Overall, a lot of Cybertruck owners seem happy to let the truck take over the driving duties. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
